I'm almost wondering if youre trolling this site. lol

25k is a good chunk of change, especially in this economy (it is a buyers market for sure) and any car listed at 30k, the owner would be hard pressed to turn down a 25k cash offer if youre standing in his driveway with the money.

Also, those dealer sites are horrendous and I'd avoid them.

    Welcome,
    Gordy

Hey @AZ 32 Highboy , you do know there is a classifieds section here on the HAMB, right?
With only just joining, and not slowing down enough to take a breath, I thought you might have missed it....
A lot safer than buying a car unseen through facebook.

I assume the pic of this car does not comply with the rules so I will not post anymore on this thread.

Just closed a deal on the below. Pretty insane honestly. Not sure exactly what I have got. It has 56k and appears to not be 156k. It appears to be all original other than a ok repaint. About a 5 footer. But still has the cardboard in the trunk. Original jack stand that looks to have never seen pavement. I am not sure if I can post more pics. I need to read the forum rules. Its has the 324 and 2 barrel with the original slush box behind it. You can't feel it shift, just smooth. Want to find a 4 barrel intake for it. A flowmaster or run dual exhaust and some torque thrusts.

    $16k

Not trolling. Just have been fighting COVID and did not have a chance to read the rules. And don't have enough time to troll...

I was able to see the 55 on a lift. Woman's husband died. He was getting hosed taking it to shops. Endless $1000 repairs for a fuel pump. Reseal of trans, $1000 etc...nuts.

No rust on the underside. Originally for NC. Still has the original owners manual.

The guys selling are car nuts and we're just helping the lady get rid of the Buick and was 10 min from the house and wife loves it.

That would have been. But the Buick was half the price and I like it about as much with new wheels and a flowmaster...

Can this car be discussed? It's not modified in any way

I assume a old 4 barrel intake will be cheaper but maybe not. But have not looked to see what 4 Rochesters go for. The guy that was helping sell the Buick said I could go to the Deer Valley airport and buy avgas for the lead and octane but I swear I read somewhere you don't want to run avgas in cars for some reason. I will search for that as I am sure that's been covered endlessly. The car will not be abused as I assume it's never been rebuilt and ran really good. But still needs some interesting speed parts and the right sound. Muffler is still original.
Headlights are the originals or NOS as the guy that knows more about old cars pointed out they don't have the nipples on them. I will pull them off for preservation and put in new halogens. So will keep all of that just for preservation. Just get new dual exhaust from the manifolds down. Not really thinking headers.

If this is the right carb at $90 then that's cheap. Just don't know if the brand is any good.

Or if it will be a total PIA to get them synced up.

At that price, it's got to be a Chinese knock-off. Some folks have reported having surprisingly good luck with them. At that price, if it fits, I'd take a chance.

One caution : That's a "large base"; make sure that it will fit (you may need a "small base" carb).

And I just remembered if I go with that the push pedal start will not work. William said to just go with that stock 4 barrel setup ..

  20. Nice looking Buick.

PLEASE don't immediately start taking it apart.
Clean it. Drive it. Enjoy it. Love it.
Until you get that far, don't start taking it apart or it will spend the next 15 years in the back of the garage. I've seen it happen so many times.

Yeah, I know, I tore my 71:firebird apart and messed up my back.

The guy that was helping the owner with the sale comes to you and charges $50 an hour and he has been the curator for a few car collections and knows more weird shit about cars than I do. Like the headlights possible being original to the car. So I would have him do the work. I just don't feel like tinkering anymore.

Man, that is a great car! Hang out here for a while before you go changing too much. @Dan Hay had a similar car that was just lowered and it was way cool. Congrats!

The paint was a quickie, It had orange peel or fisheyes on the top of the front fender but for taking to the local car shows on the weekend I am not worried about it. Dont have to worry it will get scratched. You spend $10k on paint and you dont want to drive it anywhere.

Chrome looks new though, still has the cardboard in the trunk, stains are from lead additive. Dash has not been screwed with. The radio does not work and William said its probably a tube. I have a bunch of tubes for my guitar amps. So I am familar with tubes and just need to find a tube kit and replace all the buggers. I am going to register at a Buick forum as I thing this thing is really original.

Great buy man! Find a nice 3x2 intake for it, progressive linkage, maybe headers, some throaty exhaust. Find some hamb buddys in your area as backup help for the intake and linkage, itll be a sweet little hot rod, save all the stock bits to put back on someday if someone wants to make it original again

Congrats on the purchase AZ...you wanted something and you got it...I think you made a wise decision. Keep an eye on the Hamb classified. You should do some searching here as well for threads on hopping up Buicks...they were no doubt popular in Hotrods back then along with the Olds motors...

Keep in mind that if you are considering changing intake manifolds that not all nailhead Buick manifolds fit because of deck height differences. Assuming that this car has its original 322 cubic inch engine, only manifolds from a 248 and 322 will fit. 364's are all by themselves and 401 and 425 fit each other , so 3 width manifolds, make sure you know what you are buying

also please select "full image" when posting pics....

  27. Nice car. NOT original. Special came with the straight eight engine. V8 looks nice in there, though.

    Ben

I GOOFED! Not the first time and probably not the last. I thought this was a 1953. Somehow missed the picture showing it is a 1955.
    My apologies
    Ben

    EDIT. I goofed

Do your homework and double check.
Nothing will piss you off more than buying a old part, only to find out it's the wrong one and you just pissed your money away and need to spend more time finding the right one.

Most guys here have a garage or building full of F-Up's that eventually go to the swap meets to resell.

Glad you took your time (o_Owhat a day) to find a car just right.
Found something close and see it for yourself.
Man that pocket money was on fire burning a hole in it.
Cripes we were having a hard time keep up with all the stuff you were looking at.
Driver it for a bit before you take it apart for Pete's sake.

    Wasn't the Fireball 264ci V8 introduced in '54 with the 322ci arriving in '56???
I guess it's technically still "not original" if it's a 1955 model with a 322 engine, but probably way more fun.:)
