I've been looking for a model a roadster or coupe for sometime...one to build from scratch because of the personality and soul that comes from building a car on your own. Unfortunatly I had to settle for this. I have never been a wallet builder...but couldnt pass this deal up. My truck which i have slowly parted out and had close to 50k into was for sale for 20k and or trade for a model A project when i was approached by a friend of a friend who wanted my truck and said a friend had a car i could trade for it and work a 3 way trade out i thought ya right wont be what i want and wont ever happen if it is.

today it happened the car is a 31 ford coupe, on a 32 frame, with a 53 studabaker in it. Car is one of the nicer coupe bodies chop wise and finish wise i have seen...from searchin the last year. the style besides the stink bug frame which is growin on me fits the years of appreciating high quality fab work in the offroad community. There is alot of work left, needs wiring, plumbing, driveline, floor work, axles, and some other stuff. we plan on finishing it ourselves, with the same quality and detail as Rodrigo and the jallopy shoppe has put into it (hat goes off to them) Tig welds and clean!

I have so many questions regaurding the Motor and Trans combo....I'm clueless as well as my friend who have only been around sbc, and ford 302s. THe carb setup i am told i will have to block off 2 of the 3 carbs and run the center and to swap them out to a different carb. as for parts and Forums on studabakers ( i know they are not super popular but have there followers) would be great to get links. any info on the trans and motor you veterens could throw at me even if you just ramble would be great hope to have it on the road by the end of summer and do some roadtrips with my Grandpa and uncle and friends to el mirage and bonneville perhaps.

here are some pics for now I am very very stoked luck has not looked upon me in the recent years until now nice to have things work out!

Well since it has the Stude motor I would defiantly swap those wheels out for some
40-48 Ford wheels... I love the car .. those wheels are for real early style car.. with
that motor it falls into early/mid 50's...

you'll find all the info you need on this site..don't be afraid to ask questions..
buy all the old car mags you can find...

i thnk its got a good look too, but also dont like the mix of styles, like Evel said, a stude and wires to me dont go together, if you like the wire swap out the study for a flatty, but if you like the stude get some steelies for her.

ive seen pics of the car before, like it but never been fond of the sweep in the frame.

good luck, you have a neat car

any stud forums you guys recomend, in a week or 2 im gonna start ordering all the parts i need to finish it and will be frequenting the pomona and LB swapmeets

  16. Why can't you run all 3. I run a tri power on a Stude 289 with progressive linkage and no problems in over 40,000 miles on the 3 X 2.

I kinda like the wheels but agree it doesn't match the style.

  17. Are you going to have enough ground clearance running 16" wheels? The frame looks really low.

just what rodrigo the old owner told me. I have alot of research to do on the motor and trans. and lthe wheels and tires will probably swapped out as well but not till last....wanna focus on gettin it driveable first

  19. Awsome lookin car, especially the bare metal finish. Im not too keen on the 'broken assed' chassis, but I guess it has to be like this to get it low with those monsta wheels/tyres. Nice ride......great swap!

the hp to wheel strenght is the first thing that came across my mind. since i first saw the car i felt different wheels and tire combo would be one of the few things i changed actually oddly enough do to it having very similar tire size front and rear the setup on this very similar coupe is what i was thinking. the tires on my coupe are off a motorcycle and only rated for 495lbs each which i guess is enough id just feel safer with car specific tires. the front tires on my car are 27 inches tall on 19 inch rims. id like to find the tire make and size of tire of the car below. like ive said tires are the least of my worrys right now looks done but has alot of work to go

I love everything about this model a. I wouldn't change a thing. If those are 'restored' original wheels you may want to look into replacing them with repros. And I certainly would not mat the throttle with them on there. Still, I absolutely love the look those wheels give the car. NICE!

Not that my opinion counts for much...But I would drive the wheels off of that car....every damn day! And if they broke I would replace them then with a little better set of tall skinnies! With the molding done on the frame and the bent frame it has a certain deco look that just goes with the tall skinny spokes!
