So, trying to get some more info on this thing but not much is coming up...
trying to figure out if it is within my 38-48 range. The owner says:

"Hi, The only number on the case is 1029 which I think is a date code. I have used these Caddy transmissions on Oldsmobiles for years and as far as I know all of the '40's and '50's cases and gears are the same. On this transmission the tail shaft housing measures 14 1/2 inches from the case to the oil seal. I'm sure this will work in your '48 Caddy. I hope this helps."

Still not quite sure though... Here are some pics, you guys let me know what you think please. I've been doing a lot of reading and comparing pictures but I just dont have the experience to pick apart pictures successfully...

Yes it should work if it came from a Cad or Olds V8. Of course you will need the stick bellhousing and clutch parts. I hope you realize the Flathead cad is a very heavy engine and the model A frame was never made to carry that much weight. What are you doing to reinforce your underpinnings?

Good point Rich, in my project with the Cadillac flathead engine, I boxed the frame and used a model A truck front crossmember.

Yes, I'm aware of the bellhousing, pressure plate, and clutch, and am tracking some down now... As far as the frame goes, I wasn't very comfortable running the Model A rails, even boxed, so I built (still in the process) new rails out of .120 wall 2x3 steel tubing. She'll be STRONG :D Thanks a lot for your help/advice!

Here's a question for ya Rich (or anyone in the "know")... I know the 50 Olds housing won't work because it only fits on the OHV and later engines (i think), but I think I'm ok to assume that any caddy/lasalle housing from 38-48 WILL work? Is that correct? I've heard of some issues with the '37 being a weird year but everything else 'should' be ok?
    thanks again guys.

I think any 38 to 48 bell housing will fit. But I sure don't have actual hands on experience with that many flathead Cads

Chris, I just bought a complete, runable, engine and tranny setup. I need it for mockup in the FlatCad.

If you can be a little patient, when I get done with it, you can have any of the tranny, bellhousing, and clutch setup you want, if you'll pay the shipping. I'm thrilled to see more and more of these being built!

Wow Buddy, thanks a lot for that! i picked up a '37 Lasalle toploader. The bellhousing and clutch set up I have are from a 38-48 side loader though, but I don't think that matters and should mate up anyway, correct? Granted, I need to get a new clutch disk anyway because this one looks pretty ate up, and the pressure plate may need to be replaced as well... Getting there, I guess, just slowly haha.
