Get some fender skirts ,lower the rear just a bit, make it look longer with a two tone paint job.

  5. Fantastic response to this thread for such an oddball car. I'm really surprized at how well it it takes a modest chop. Dropped a few inches makes all the difference.
El Tortuga, that thing looks great. Very modest mods.

could be the old eyes but seems like a lot of work to take a nice wayfarer and make it look like a cross between a 51-53 chevy. one of my nephews does look like a monkey though.....

I gotta say ..don't chop it..drop it, slam it etc..but if it's a Wayfarer biz coupe..they didn't make many of these..so you may want to consider that for the next guy....
    just my thought.

This is Sonny Daout's car. I first saw it in the mid-sixties, looking pretty much as you see it. A ton of work did go into it. If I remember correctly, he started with a convertible, and grafted on the roof of a Merc hardtop. The workmanship is first rate. It has logged plenty of miles, too!

James D is on the money with the chop, that look is awesome and like he said the color even works..:D

  21. Got it.
Been sitting in a barn / shed for 20 years. It fell over in and windstorm 6 weeks ago. I hashed out a deal with the guy this morning. It's on it's way over here now on a flat deck. Still has the original tires. Scary. The guy stripped it to "restore" it. Every piece is in the car wrapped in newspaper. Still has the original flat six so I'm optimistic it'll run with a little elbow grease.
    The adventure begins..................

  24. OMG. The thing runs great!!! Little bit of coaxing, cleaning up the points, priming the carb.... little ruff at first but now she's running like a sewing machine. Can't even hear it idle. Gotta love it!
Now if I can just find reverse so I can get it back in the shop...............

  26. I've got to come up with a replacement gas tank. This one is to far gone (rust) also, anybody know what sending unit will work with the original 6V + ground gauge? What the resistance is?
    Thanks!

The car was a Wayfarer roadster (like the maroon one in the background). The roof is a Merc, '54 2 dr hdtp if I remember correctly, though the rear window is off something else. It's got a '57 Pontiac engine and '57 Pontiac dash. Sonny bought some '57 Star Chief stainless dash pieces from me about 6 years ago; I got the pics when he emailed them to show me the car the stainless was going on. It was originally built '62-'64.
