Man I love that 55. I have always been a two door guy but the car I've chosen to build is a 4 door and after looking at pics and vids of cars like your 55 I'm all for building a 4 door.

I got my drivers license in '65. I worked all summer to buy my first car. It was a '53 Chevy 210 4 door. Because back then, just like today, 4 doors were cheaper than 2 doors. Most of us didn't give a rat crap how many doors it had as long as we didn't have to ride the bus. I tossed the hubcaps, added narrow whites, painted the rims gloss black and primed the car black.

There was lots of nice 4 doors in high school parking lots and streets all over the place. Look through old Hot Rod and other magazines from back then. Guys were building 4 doors. They're was even a few nice wagons and more than one or two cool trucks running around. Yeah. there was lots of 4 doors back in the day.

For the most part I like 4 doors more than 2 doors. I like the fact they look a little more stoogie looking, the (most of the time) unsporty looks, and the plainer the better. Most of the cars I like aren't worth much either as a 2 door or a 4 door so the whole recouping money thing doesn't make any difference to me. Plus the most I have ever spent on a project total has been 1500 bucks so there isn't much to recoup any way.

Keep it a Fourdoor, its cool if its under 1950. And for the record,

DONT. SAY. THE. DOUBLE. R. WORD.

They died along time ago, they're like camaros, im tired of seeing them at every damn car show!

When you are driving one down the road it is hard to tell that you are in a two door or a four door. If I want my four door to look cool, I flat tow my roadster behind it. Otherwise I just enjoy it.

As long as there are still reasonably priced 2-doors, I wouldn't waste the time on a 4-door, but it's your car, build what you want.

I love my more door Merc. Just get it on the road and drive it. the best thing about hot rods, is you can build to your own taste.

I'm all about 2 doors, but that's sick.

I agree that there are some sick 4-doors out there, and it's a shit load easier to get into the hobby when the car doesn't cost $10-20k to start. But you aren't going to make the money back if you go to sell.

    the best kind of buddies...

  19. Both would make cool hot rods. Neither would make a good rat rod but, build what you want.

After I sold my '59 Rambler wagon I looked around for anything that I could put some time in on. This fell in my lap. I like it. 007.JPG

For a cruiser, hard to beat a fullsize four door. Easy in, easy out for all inside. Usually a luxury/semi-luxury car, so lots of comfort. Think Caddy, Lincoln, Buicks, etc.
Extra bonus, many 4-doors have extra headroom.

Look what's in my garage - 39 Chev 4 door. Started with a very rusted 2 door sedan, this was my parts car - way better shape. Save as many of the old cars as we can. Just replaced the rear quarter panel that was crunched up, came from a 2 door sedan that was made into a ute! Just gotta finish this before the kids are all grown up.
