Looking to up grade my brakes from the treadle vac system to dual master cylinder mine came with power brakes is there a system I can use from the parts store that will fit? Master cylinder plugger on treadle vac is 6 inches with firewall plate. with out fire wall plate from fire wall to brake pedal fully pulled to set position is about 4 inches. Fire wall mount holes are 4 bolt hole 2 1/2 from top to bottom and 3 inches left to right 4 inches cross ways. I know there are lots out there for $900 and up on Abs but I don't have the money now I want something reliable less expensive for right now to be able to drive my rod around. I mean before there where people that sold kits there was a hot rodder that played around with it to make it work. Please help
I replaced the one on my 56 and 57 with 8'' dual diaphragm double cyl. Had to make my brackets but pretty simple really. I got mine from fabquest in Carson city Nevada About 150.00
If you can find someone parting out a '52 to'54 Lincoln w/std brakes(non-power) & buy the complete system(pedal, brackets, pushrod, & master cylinder), then match-up a dual master cyl to the original bolt pattern(probably late '60's ford truck?) (usually very reasonable from Rockauto)
drtrcr . are the non power a more straight through linkage? The power is a little odd ,in the way it works.
I used the back of the treadle vac that bolted to the firewall and made a new plate on the front to take a later dual circuit master and booster, drill it out to suit what you choose.
'56 Premier: the non-power assembly is very similar to the Ford/Mercury units & are more direct than the power units that have added linkage. If you are unable to locate a Lincoln unit, the Mercury(& possibly Ford?) may either fit,( or be fairly easily modified to fit?). If these don't solve the problem, the aftermarket racecar units could also be used(like the Lincoln/Ford units they are swing pedals, so the installation should be fairly straightforward) Available from Speedway or other race vendors.
