Ive done a search and can't find anything - on my cell at the shop and we're trying to take this rear end apart and are stuck... Its supposedly out of a 56 chevy car. We've undone everything that we can get to other than the brakes..the backing plates are just hanging there against the axle which will spin along with the pinion. We took out the seal and the bearing around the pinion..and the third member just won't come away...something is holding on in there still.. Any suggestions? Thanks!
Did you pull the axles out? They need to be pulled out of the third member...if the backing plates spin with the pinion, then the axles aren't pulled out far enough. Once the axles are clear, the third member will come out. You'll need an axle puller to do it, bolted to the axle.
