i been driving the car for over a years on this ******, never had a problem till the other night. when i went to leave i notice the car wouldnt go into reverse or park like the column shifter wont let me put it up. now i have once of does universal cloumn kits its worked for me for years. i thought it might have gotten loose so i put the car up on stands and disconnected the shifter and tried to manually put it on park and it wont ratchet p***ed NEUTRAL.
i can ratchet thru N D 3 2 1 but no R or P... any one got any idea what it can be?

id drop the valve body, sounds like the shifter selector that goes in the valvebody either jammed or something is broken like the spring in there etc...

Really, you can see this by just removing the pan. The selector has a linkage to the manual selector piston (more like a rod). Look at that first. The link to this rod controls the hydraulics, another link goes to the parking pall. (big hook that engages the drum) I expect you'll see the issue and can fix it without dropping the valvebody. Be sure to watch for debris in the pan. May be as simple as a broken parking pall.

ok so i dropped the pan, and played wit the ratchet, and it still wouldnt go into the last 2 gears. so i went to my buddys shop and took the pan out of a 700r4 he has and i notice that this shaft??(i found this pic online) doesn't come out all the way to let it ratchet to the last 2 clicks?? obviously this is where the problem is but ive never taken a ****** apart so i wouldnt know where to start...can some one give me some advice so i can trouble shoot this wit out F things up??? thanks in advance

Chief did you disconnect the shift linkage from the tran's? If not remove the shift rod or cable from lever on side of tran's. then see if you get full travel if you do then the problem is the linkage not the trans

unbolt your detent spring, and your manual valve should slide freely in and out of your valve body. If it doesn't, find out why.

I bet the problem is mis-installed plate in the rear where the park rod runs through.

Chief take the nut of the shifter shaft on the inside.Pull the shaft out enough to free the plate with the detents on it. Then see if the valve in the valve body travels all the way in and out. Also look real close where the rod that goes to the parking pawl goes . Remove the brakett at rear of trans and inspect parking pawl and make sure nothing is binding
