So I have this************** '55 Country Sedan Wagon...Mind you that this*****box has consumed about 100 hours of my life in the past 3 weeks... Just when I got the rust in the floor sorted out and the body patched, the 4-barrell intake working and the exhaust replaced it started making this hammer-pounding on the engine sound when I put it in drive... Maybe (fingers*****in' crossed) JUST the flex plate... Maybe, however the engine is giving me the warning cries of it's death rattle... So I've been thinking of re-building it... I want to do this thing RIGHT... I plan on driving this car and only this car every day as soon as possible and for the rest of my natural walking life, at least that's the plan today...

It's got a 272 block, don't know for sure the other specs... been told that it's bored over and that the crank has been changed... However, judging from the other***** that the jack-leg that I got it from did... it's the stock 272...

Where can I get an engine re-build kit? Where can I get a cam? Crank? Valves? What would you do first?

Man, I don't really want to rebuild it but then again I don't want to put all the time and effort in and then have the whole thing take a***** on me.

    Thanks,

    Tim

Get a 292, the cheapest for parts. You can bore the 272 and use standard size 292 pistons also. Cranks, rods and most other stuff are interchangable.

Reds carries kits and cams. Valves are everywhere.

  4. Egge is another source for internal engine parts.

If it hasn't been done already, I'd put a '57 or later dist. in it; also think about converting it to 12v.

I have a 292 out of a old cab over, about a 60 model that is a Jasper rebuilt. It was in a farm truck and the old farmer said they quit driving it when the DOT started cracking down. It isn't suppose to have many miles. My understanding is that they should have a steel crank. It is complete except exhaust manifolds and has the 4bbl intake to except the holley carb. I will that 150.00 if you could use it.

I prefer the points in mine because I had the Pertronix Ignitor II break on me. I know I'm in the minority, but if you do get the pertronix, make sure you save the receipt and original box so they don't pull any***** with you if it fails.
It worked great when it worked. I parked the car for a month or so and somehow it lost spark in that time.

I like to think of myself as "quirky" but for the most part I have***** luck.

-Look who I'm******ing about "shit luck" to! Are you going to post pics of your "broken kart" from this weekend? It could work out to our benefit if the other Y blockers see it and decide to sell off all of their*****. [IMG]
