i have read this whole thread, i think it is very nice of you guys to offer to help a kid you have never even met.

i would help, but being a kid myself (18) i am broke and cant even afford to get a motor and trans for my project.....otherwise i would be more than willing to throw in some money.

hope you have him back up and running soon!

Thanks for the update. I'm still good for some money if needed.

One thing to look for is an old Glenn's or similar repair manual for that era vehicle. It would help him alot in the long run.

...or along the same line a later poncho mill and tranny. the 400 on 455 poncho's are all over the place (probably get a running donor car on the cheap), just a thought...

I will ask my Higher Power to help this man find his way to a clean and sober life. We all started at the start and it is wonderfull to have all these righteous hot rodders helping.

  8. Don't give up on the kid - unless you catch him stealing. Nothing, but nothing fucks up drug abuse like having had to leave the company of good, decent sober people to go roll in the gutter again. There just ain't enough pot, coke, meth, and booze to make a guy forget what he lost.

How do I know? Thirty-nine years old by the the bellybutton this spring; eighteen by the chip count.

I wish I could be there for a HAMB thrash - Seattle's too far a drive. Please PM if you get collection going.

I spent the weekend working on MY car , narrowed and shaved a 53 cad rear bumper to fit my 52 chevy Belair and sanded and primered the metal that had rusted up since shaving the handles and some of the trim holes.

I took my car for a drive downtown when I finished up , and guess who comes running out into the street ?

We drove around a bit talking about what I have done to my car , and what he wants to do to his , then I dropped him off at a coffee shop to meet up with some people that were taking him to a meeting , He can't wait to get to work.

I will see what the boss has to say on Monday .

Been following this thread and just wanted to let you and the H.A.M.B family know that I feel honored to be a privy to this.
What you people have done and offered to do for this kid is so positive. I think that this is a crossroads in his life and with all of your outpouring of generousity that he will be taking the right path and will never look back.
Count me in for money for any parts that you might be needing. Just let me know where I can send it.

So , the Hamb thrash is on. We are planing on a big work day on a Saturday and finishing up on Sunday for locals or folks that want to stay over .

Looks like we are shooting for Saturday the 25th of March , the same day as the Goodguys show in Pleasanton , or if it is better , Saturday April 1st , April Fools Day ( I kinda like that )

I want to throw it out there and see what you guys think , as far as what is better for people that might want to come out , food will be provided Lunch and dinner /party Saturday night at my home , for people that want to stay til Sunday and don't want to drive home ,we have a giant place , with lots of room for guests.

I just need to know who is in , and when is best for everyone.

    lets hear what you think.

Wow! Sounds like a great time is gonna be had at the thrash. I bet we'd all love to be there! ...but since we can't, would it be too much to ask for a few photos to be posted on the board?
Kudos to all who show up!!!!!!!!

Hey is there anything set up to help costs. I know that materials are not cheap. I would like to flow some cash. I am one of the lucky ones that has been helped out by people on the HAMB. Let us know if we can help with cash or parts I am sure there are people on here that can help.

I think I am leaning to the weekend of March 25-26 , and who cares if the goodguys show is the same day , I have given them enough of my $ for their crappy swapmeet anyway.

With the car done he can drive it over to the April fools day show the next weekend , and enjoy it .

So Saturday the 25th , who is gonna make it ? What you gonna bring ?

Brandy , if you can handle the tire relay , that would rule , and will free up some cash for some other much needed stuff .

I am pretty sure Yorgatron will be there , as well as a few of the Mechanics from my shop and I hope others will chime in and let me know who is gonna make it out , so I can plan accordingly , and come up with a list of stuff to bring.

If you want to work , think about bringing safety glasses , in case I dont have enough .

If you are thinking about going , but you think you don't have the skills , you gotta come and you can learn on the job , no one will be turned away if they want to help , there is plenty to do , for all skill levels.

I will once again say how much I appreciate all the offers for $ help , but I think we got that covered , I do parts for a living , and I've got some sweet connections , so we are doing pretty good so far .

If this has inspired you , but you live to far away , find a way to do something closer to you , you don't have to be in a cool car club , or some bigshot guy on TV to get some people together and build a cool car , you just need a plan , some hard work and some help , and even though you won't win a set of new tools , I bet you will walk away from it having learned something, had some fun , made some friends and memories that are just as cool.

    I can't wait .

P.S. it doesn't matter if it rains , we will be inside.

Sounds good. I may be able to make it over there on the 25th to help. If any other folks are going over the hill from San Jose, maybe we can roll together. I'll drive my '60 wagon, so have room for hauling some tools.

i'm not doing it for the kid, hell,i haven't even MET him yet.
i'm doing it because i like old cars, plus i get a kick out of being called "the Hydro-Matic expert" :D
i participated in both HAMBchops too,but because i wanted to learn more about metal working.
when was the last time you saw either of those 2 jokers OR their cars on here?
i don't think either one was ever finished :(
if the kid learns something and figures out what a cool hobby this is,instead of getting wasted on booze then it's a good thing.
if not,it's still fun for me...
