  1. its a good thing you clarifed that, cause i was going to show you the good ol' cake love dance. Always gets the ladies in the mood. I figured it would be ok with the whole broke back mountain trip going around.

    John,

Again I will be there at 8....if its raining we'll move the remaining party to the shop, BUT I only show a slight chance of rain for Sat.

If people wimp out, whoever is there I will just drag back over to your shop and we'll do it there WHILE finishing a car....

What could be cooler than that?

I'll be drivin my 55 pick-em-up rain or shine

I'm shooting to be there by about 8am also. I'll be bringing the '60 wagon over the hill from SJ. Not planning on bringing any tools aside from the small amount i carry in my car, so let me know if you need anything and i'll bring. Hopefully i'll remember to bring a camera so that we can post some pics.

As far as this Brokeback Mountain talk..... that's not for me. Thus, i'll just keep my eyes focused on the broken Pontiac and let others deal with broken mounts. Female strippers though.... I can handle that. :)

Godspeed for sunshine on Saturday. I sick of the rain at this point....

Damn guys. I just read this thread, and this is really great. I am sending a donation through paypal to help offset the cost of the engine and tranny.

Well, I will as soon as I can remember my freakin' password for paypal.

Whew Strippers- where have you guys been all my life? I didn't know they worked that early! How could we possibly get any work done with fresh stuff to look at! I saw the motor and trans it looks good, especially the highlighted "high compression" script. Man I can't wait. Plus the car does look totally right lowered down, Dusty should be way proud of her.

John- remember all ST. Patrick had to do was chase the snakes out of Ireland! Boy am I glad I'm Irish. So for what it's worth one miracle is good these days.

    Hey John,
I know a lot of people have already said this, but I'm gonna say it myself...
Thanks for getting this thing started. This kid has been kicked in the gut so many times with what has happened in his life, it's nice knowing he's getting more than one helping hand while he's been down this time. I know I'm pulling for this kid to get things together. Please keep us posted about how he's doing...after reading all this, I feel like he's become part of the family!

As for the cake on Saturday, what time were you thinking about doing it?
I'd be happy to get the cake and bring it over with Dave. (I think some birthday embarrassment would be just what the doctor would order!!)

I have to tell ya, I don't check the HAMB as often as I should, but I have spent the majority of the morning here at work reading this particular thread (after the hubby told me about it) and it does my heart good to see that my faith in the human spirit isn't just a fairy tale.

I don't think it's been mentioned yet, but how about someone cough up a spare HAMB T-shirt to give to Dusty... Talk about wearing it with pride. I really think Dusty would truely appreciate that gesture. So what up? Anyone got a good clean HAMB shirt they could live without knowing the new owner would prolly treat it better than you would? Even if I had one, I'm betting it would be WAAAAAY too big as i wear a 3 or 4X, dependin' on what's on the table for dinner.

JohnnyD, what size shirt would Dusty wear?

  17. I'm a coming over in the morning, probably be there round 10.30 or so, if thats not too late, can't promise to be too "expert" but I'm willing, and I can lift heavy things....also I'll bring the camera....I can do that!

    See you there....

  25. Just got back from John's shop....Man, what a heartwarming sight to see all these guys wrenching on "Duckys" Poncho....we got there just as the motor & trans were being lowered in, and when we had to leave about 2 hours later, the guys were on the verge of firing her up....

    Heres a few shots....

Mark (almost a HAMB'er) did a kick ass job of striping the hood latch panel as a surprise, as we left, Dusty hadn't yet seen it.....would love to have seen his face...we were all keeping him away from the front as it was going on....

And finally......Living proof why Yorgatron is more suited to 50's cars with room in them!! (Sorry George) :D

The look on Dusty's face when I rolled up at 7:55am this morning was worth it all alone....I could tell he was so excited to have this happening, yet was in such disbeleif that people were just coming to help out.

Phil, Mark, John, and one other cat I dont remember his name, and I made quick work of disassembling the old motor to take it out...

Man I was so hoping this car was gonna roll into the park. If you guys need anything else let me know...I told Dusty he is welcome to roll over to my place and we can get the floor pans patched.

Let me know how it went, and sorry I had to leave early......Im down to help again on this project.

It runs , it drives, it shifts .

We did drive it to the park once it fired up , but that was around 4:30, and there was nobody there , so we went for a cruise .

The project is over , I could bore you all with the details of why it took so long to get it to fire after we got the new motor in , but I'm tired , and just happy that its a runner .

There is still work to do , but that will give him something to keep him busy.

I presented him with his Birthday cake before we all went home , and told him that his friends at the Hamb , had taken care of the $400 that the motor cost , and that he could put his money into the car insted of having to pay it back.

I want to thank everyone who helped , I would make a list but it would take forever , cuz of all the people on it .

So I will just say thanks to everyone that came over to work , everyone who sent donations , everyone who gave their support , all the guys from the shop who came in on their day off and worked on the weekend for free, and I want to thank Ryan for the HAMB , or this probably never would have happened.

    John,

I am so glad to hear this....if you get a chance give Dusty my number. I told him he was welcome to bring the poncho by and I would help him fix the floorboards....

Thanks again for starting this whole thing....I had a blast and it felt good helping him out, just wish I could have been there to see his face once it ran
