yo..I am replacing my generator on my 54 chevy 235 with an alternator....the firefighter I work with at my station has a junk yard and brought me what he thought was a "one wire" unit...but it also has 2 other wires coming from a plug. Is this the alt. I need and if so, where do the other wires connect to??? I know the main one goes to the batt. but I'm unsure about the others b/c I know NOTHING about gens. or alts. It's a delco from a '79 chevy and he sells them CHEAP so I'm hoping this works.....thanks

  2. if that alternator has the main battery connection AND two more wires coming from a plug , then it is not a one wire . hook it up like this:

if you are not sure if it works , take it to any good auto parts store and have it tested...that should cost you nothing to only a few dollars
