Did you pay via Paypal? If you did, you may have a shot, slim at that.

Here is what I did when I got hosed on some pistons. Let Paypal do their thing. Pretty much a waste of time in my case.

Once they denied it, I called my credit card company. Since Paypal is tied to your credit card, they fought for me and got my money back.

Only snag is you need to give the seller back the goods before they will proceed.

Good luck. Certainly sounds like you got a raw deal.

I think a lot of what keeps a thread going is the opposite as going to the front of the line. In this case they/we/us all at one time or another are guilty of this, go to the end of the post, and skip what has already been said. I vote to kill it, do what you have to do and move on. I'm doing what I have to do with my case it can't be resolved here.

Its all about the pictures. I sold a mustang to a guy across the country. He was gonna fly in and drive it home. I took a good 50-75 pics in high resolution. Thats all it took. He flew in a week later and drove it home. Just take TONS of pictures. If someone really wants to buy a car they will NEVER complain about to many pictures.

To summarize your point, laziness on both sides caused this issue.

Sucks to hear you got screwed. I have my sedan on ebay right now with the link to here with the build. i have had one guy talk to me and I told him to PM certain people on here that have seen the car for an unbiased opinion of the car, since he is unable to come and look at the car himself and doesnt know anyone in the area to look at it for him

How did you pay? For a car Ebay still allows numerous ways to pay. If you paid with a credit card via PayPal, you could file a complaint with your credit card company for the money. If it was sent via the postal service with a post office money order, you can use the rath of the postal inspectors to get some or all of your money back.

When I bought my Daytona in Lake Tahoe, CA, I requested pictures of all the areas that were common rust spots. I asked for pictures for all floors and rocker panels as well as good pictures from all for corners. After that I drove from Detroit to California in person. The car was actually better than discribed and for $800 it was a steal.

This is all OK, I am tearing into it right now, only reason Im posting is cause I slit my finger open removing the pop riveted galvy sheet under the bondo.
SO LETS KILL THIS POST AND ACT LIKE THIS NEVER HAPPENED.
I will start a new thread on what I find and the process, going to remain positive. anger only clouds my head and then I cant work.:)

Think of it as an adventure!

"What's under here? what did they pop rivet onto this?
    What fresh hell is this?"

and at the end of the day, You may discover a new talent. You might be a helluva sheet metal fabricator and not even know it.

and if it still stings, think of this. I am taking a breather from working on a 9800 dollar E-bay purchase a customer of mine made- and he looked at it in person.

When I am done, only the roof, top half of the cowl and portions of the tops of the quarter panels will be stock sheet metal.

seems like a bunch of cash for a 6 cylinder model 70 Chevelle to me, too.

That sounds like good advice. you paid 32 +ship for a 25 car. Sh** happens! Fighting it will wear you out and cost money and only the lawyers win.

Contact the seller tell him he misrepresented it and you will drag his ass/reputation through hell and back unless he sends you a check for $400.
Then get it running, cut the rust off and put it back on eBay with an accurate description. You'll get most of your money back and some kid will love it for years.

I've had this problem on ebay. How did you pay for it. If you used paypal you can get your $$$$$ back. You need to call ebay and paypal NOW to report it. With you reporting it to paypal...paypal will put a hold on the sellers account to figure out whats going on. Also with doing this...the seller CAN NOT take out any of there funds. You need to acted fast cause if the seller already took the funds out your screwed. Thats what happen to me...i bought $1500 in car parts on ebay. The seller lie about the condition of the parts, so i call ebay & paypal to complain, ebay and paypal contacted the seller to see whats going on. So paypal put a hold on the seller account. I wasn't able to get my $$$$ back cause i took to long to report it and with me doing that the seller had time to take out of there funds.
So i complain like a SOB to ebay and paypal about there buyer protection plans, and within a couple days ebay gave me a $1500 dollar coupon to use on ebay. I wanted my money refunded, but shit i got to keep the parts plus an extra $1500 thanks to ebay. So i would contact them soon as possible, and i hope everything works out for you!

I say change the 1/4's and rockers and sell it for twice what you paid. Anytime you buy a 60 year old car ,you can expect a few surprises.I paid nearly 12k for my 56 Chevy and i had to change a rocker and fix a few spots in one door.Difference was i new it had these spots when i bought it.I woulda asked one of these guys here from that area to take a look at it before i made a concrete deal on a car from another state that i had never laid my hands on .Thats what we are all here for .If there was a member that asked me to look over a prospective car in my area for them,i would .That shoebox really isnt that bad for the price in my opinion ,and doesnt look like it would be too hard to fix .Good luck on it ...

I have to agree with this post, the words "rust in the usual places" are a big red flag. How often does a classified ad or auction says this? So ask a lot of questions and get more pictures before you bid. Just what are the "usual places", the inside and the outside? This car was described as a project that has been sitting for years (hence the bad gas smell), yeah, it looks shiny and you hoped for the best but did you expect a perfect rust free California shoebox for $3250? I think you were dreaming man. Sorry reality popped a hole in your bubble.

I have bought and sold a lot of cars on eBay. When I sell a car, I make sure I include lots of pictures and a very long description. When I buy a car, if the description is very weak like this one, I try to get the seller on the phone. I like the idea of using the H.A.M.B. network helping out on inspections.

Sorry, but I don't think you have any recourse to the seller, he told you there was rust and that's what you got. The first car I bought on eBay was in 1999, a '53 Ford coupe. Things were pretty primitive back then, the guy scanned Polaroid pictures into the auction. The car was like this one, bad amateur body work and rusty supports underneath. I only paid $1200 and flipped it for $1500 (also on eBay but with full disclosure of the condition).

Good luck, fix it or flip it and learn from your mistake.

I could not have said it any better! I'm not sure what someone thinks they are getting for $3200. Looking at the add on the EBAY the seller stated that there were issues with the car.So I think you own the car and you need to fix what you don't like about the car or send the car down the road...but stop crying about it,it's your problem and not the seller's any longer.

Hey, he has those valuable NY Giants domain names for sale for $499.00. That should feed his family of 6 for a week after he deducts his GoDaddy and eBay fees. I doubt these are rusty.

I've owned ten shoeboxes and all needed rockers and lower quarters. I bought my first one 13 or 14 years ago for $3000. Your car has a better grill and chrome than my car did then. Out of the ten shoeboxes all of them needed rocker and lower quarter replacement done. I have found that certain cars have certain problem areas and the best thing to do before purchasing a car is to use the hamb or other resources to find out where these typical areas are on the car you intend on buying, then inspect the car yourself or if your concerned about specific areas, then email the seller through ebay asking about them so you have it documented if there ends up being issues upon delivery. It really sounds like you got a fair deal. I don't know which is worse, a seller who isn't super specific in the description or a buyer who is super critical, in this case of a car that is almost 60 years old. To find a shoebox that doesn't need any panel replacement and that hasn't been garage kept all it's life is for around $3000 would indeed be an unlikely score and probably not one you would find on ebay.
