ok,its time to have an exhaust installed on my 54 chevy.the chevy has a 355 with a nice mild cam and 350 turbo trans.what kind of exhaust system will have a nice crackle when you let off the throttle? kind of mufflers?and the best size exhaust?2" or 2.5"?best to run straight back or dump down before the rear axle?

i used to see a 59 chevy running around town.when he was on the gas it would sound like a screetch.(if that makes sense)it almost sounded like the car was burning rubber whan the guy was on the gas.then when he let off the gas,the car would crackle going down the road.i loved it! but i dont see the car anymore to ask the guy what he is running.

any hamber advise on a direction to go?

I like to run 2.25" pipes, with chrome/polished pencil tips. I'd run Porter Mufflers if I were you.

Here's some Brockman's with the aforementioned 2" pipes. It also makes a difference where you mount the muffler's along the exhaust. Mine are closer to the motor. If you call Brockman, you can tell him the exact sound you're going for and he'll make recommendations for pipe going to the muffler, the muffler itself, and pipes going out.

Here are some videos of mine in my ride (in various stages of finish) from both outside and inside the vehicle. One is obviously a cell phone video, so you kinda have to ignore some of the higher pitch "blats" in there that sound weird.

Where do you find pencil tips for 2.25" pipes? I would love a set for my '53 Chevy but couldn't find a set with the turned-in ends.
