this to me is another question that didnt need to be asked. a search for chopped top gl*** would have answered the question.

also something that is very basic and a phone call to any local gl*** place would have gotten pretty much the same thing.

I do think that sometimes us "old timers" (am I old enough to include myself in that saying?) forget that others are new to the game and dont always know the obvious answers. So sometimes we poke the new guy with a stick.

When I was new in this game I got poked by the stick more than once. Call it paying your dues, hazing whatever.

  2. Actually if you read real close you will find this statement and you should be aware that it is a true statement.

Spreading the gospel of traditional hot rods and customs to hoodlums world wide...

The operative word being hoodlums. Some of us are a little rough around the edges, and we don't give a big rats patoot if that makes you happy or not.

There are any number of the fellas on here that at one time or another have told me that a sphincter should not be used for a hat band. Right after I heard the popping sound I was aware that they were correct. I didn't need or want anyone to give me a pitty party for it. Most of the old fellas are aware that I would loose all respect for them if they tried to throw me one.

I'm not going to suggest that you leave although in the past that would have been said and once again no one would have cared. I am going to suggest that you drop all the touchy feely stuff and get with the program. Maybe just maybe the new guy is like the rest of us and doesn't need your pitty party either.

Oh yea sorry for the rant fellas.

    Carry on.

Not true, I have been a **** head for quite awhile now.

  4. OK then just out of respect I'll call you Richard Crainium. ;)

Some people just don't get it, someone giving you the gears is just a right of p***age. It helps to separate the Lemmings from the Wolverines.

  6. Well I'm glad that things have lightened up a bit here.

There used to be a speak easy down near Union Station, Moe's Bathtub Gin and Cards: Liquer in the front and poker in the rear.

Oh hey did we ever figure out how to get gl*** for a Model A?

  7. I am with Tyler on this one. He gave an honest answer, the dude might want to reconsider.

  8. Hey I thought I said that. ;)

Maybe the question would have been better worded I want to chop my coupe and I am gathering all the information before I try and tackle the job. My first question is about gl***. . .

But we could have figured that out if we were just nicer.

  9. Lets blame it on a bad educational system.

What this site doesn't need is wise *** no- it -alls dumping on a newbie who asked a question. I guess its just a way for a douche to stoke their ego.

So did the **** storm p*** yet???
I agree my tenure here doesn't mean I'm any better or worse than the next guy, only that I found this place sooner. I can however recognize when someone appears to be getting in over their head and I prefer a direct honest response instead to flowery rhetoric. (no offense to Rogers rhetoric, I love your books :) )

Now all the suggestions are on the table, let's hear what the plan is from the question asker. You let the sparks fly yet or are you whittling out window templates??

    Thanx for the compliment, Tyler.

This whole thread shouldn't have been a **** storm...the OP asked an honest question, he shouldv'e gotten an honest answer.

Didn't you ever get in over your head, Tyler...I did, more than once, but I asked questions trying to find a way out.

FWIW, I hope he's still around to answer...and I find it very interesting that SpecialEd deleted all his posts in this thread.

  15. And he did ask an honest question , He only needed a simple answer.
I really don't get how asking where he can get gl*** cut equates to being over his head in the first place. . He asked the question and that hows that he is planning ahead, not being over his head.

  16. Gator,
Thanks man I can never find that when I want to.

I'll post the link again for those too slow to find it in your post.

    THIS

I think he got way more answers than he needed.

When I was a kid I was serving a Mill Rights apprenticeship south of you at Stimpson's Mill. Ya know most of them guys were a little rough, I heard this one phrase more than anything else, "F#@Kin' figure it out, that's what I'll have to do." After I tried to figure it out someone would help me, sometimes.

At least 90% of building a rod is solving problems, this 1-800-hotrod world we live in has made people soft. I'm not necessarily refering to being a sissy but soft on thinking. It all comes down to where do I buy this part and what if it isn't an exact fit. Its a hot rod for goodness sake and the part probably isn't going to be an exact fit.

I didn't need the drama from you or anyone else. You guys want to act like a bunch of old women, be my guest....:) Arguing semantics seems very counterproductive to me. I'd rather spend my time reading the threads where I can learn something new, or answering a few questions with what little knowledge I do possess...
I'm quite certain that I've deleted several hundreds of my posts over the years. If I don't feel that I'm adding something constructive, or my response is redundant, I simply delete it....don't take it personal.

I have to agree and say it's really "disgusting" to me that someone or even a few would down a guy for asking a question that he didn't know about . I say it's a damn good question ! How would somebody know unless they have to ask someone that's suppose to "Helpful & full of Information " to help other . What seems simply to you may not be to someone else that is NEW to this GREAT HOBBY of customizing there hotrods ! So when you didn't know who did you ask ? I hope they made you feel the same way you did to the "FNG" !
I don't care who you are or how long you have been here or how many damn posts you made , that doesn't give you any power over someone to disrespect them for asking a DAMN good question !

Isn't this how we all learn or has it all come down to someone filtering through all the questions that people ask to see which one is "Stupid" to you ?

I don't car how long you have been around cars or how many hotrods you have built , how the hell do we p*** on the tradition of hot rodding on if we don't help them out ? It's really bad that someone can't ask a question anymore !

NOTE: To any and all that are new or been doing this for 60 years , if there is something you don't know , PLEASE just send me a PM and ask away ! I will be more than happy to help anyone out ! If I don't know the answer I will help you find out !

  19. He did get alot of answers and as far as him asking a question here, isn't that what makes this site great? You get immediate answers. You don't need the BS that just creates drama.
I am with you on figuring out stuff. I have posted alot of cool tech tips that I figured out myself to save people money and time. I have a very mechanical mind and don't need much help but when I do, I post the question here. This is where I found out about Delta Cams in Tacoma from a fellow member . I found out what headlights I scored, got info on my Hemi etc etc.It saved me alot of time and grief. I don't need or get much help on my 1929 Whippet coupe and don't need it as everything I do on it is one off. Theres nothing wrong with asking questions . Some need to ask more and some ask none. Neither one is wrong and both people deserve the same respect. He didn't know if an auto gl*** company would cut gl*** so he asked and you are right also. He got more than enough answers to help him out . But this post would have been 2 pages less if the answer to his question wasn't questioning his skills.
Now his post was hi-jacked by all of us. LOL!
    Enough said by me.

  20. I'm with you. We agree.

Might be a good time to let this one go. It was fun and everything.

  21. best get use to it boys- having dealt with a couple of these posters in the past it seems thier mistreatment as youths has left them emotionally scarred and incapable of offering any constructive ***istance....you'll learn who they are over time- just skip the post and move on to one thats helpful.. Unless they are poking each other, then sometimes its entertaining
