Found a cast iron Chevy distributor from the early '60s, I think. The little aluminum band reads: 1110947 1 H 28

Cast into the stem is the number 360.

I'd like to know what it was in originally.

    Thanks.

Not much help, but 1 H 28 means 1961 August 28. With that date, it could be from a '61 or a '62. I've found over the years that alternators and distributors are date coded the opposite of block & head castings, etc. (the year being the first digit rather than the last)

An old MOTORS manual is a good source for identifying distributors, unfortunately I don't have them at my disposal anymore.

    Thanks. That helps.

    How about this one?

I'm guessing '73 October 25, but I'd like to know the engine.

    Thanks.

With that date (which you are probably correct on:)), it's from a 1974 something.
I really don't have any distributor numbers memorized . But I still remember the VIN and carburetor number from my '70 GTO that I sold 20 years ago. Alot of good that does anybody:).
