    A friend of mine bought a '53 Olds convertible. It has a tag that says 537m5720, would this tell me if it's a convertible? Is there anything in the car that would tell me it's an original convertible?

    The 537M5720 number tells you its a 1953 88 made in Lansing. 537 = 88
    M = Lansing
    5720 = sequence number

    On the firewall is a plate with style no. on it you should have 3667DX for the convert code.

    thanks DON WOW,

    I found the plate, it reads as follows:

    style: 53-3611
    body: L1732
    trim: 61
    top ACC -62-63

    Your help would be helpful, thanks

    Thanks DON WOW, that's what we feared. The seller clearly stated that it was a factory convertible. Let it be a lesson learned, for us anyways, not to buy from eBay. It seemed like a good deal, now we know it was for a reason. It really pisses me off.

    Thanks for you help again,

    Mario

    don't blame ebay, dishonesty is everywhere...you need to do your homework before buying any car.

    You're right Squirrel, I had some pretty good deals in eBay, just venting, my bad. Next time we just have to be more educated and know what to look for.

    How much did you end up paying for it?

    Was there a '57 Cadillac in the background of the pictures in the eBay ad?

  10. You did, ah, go look at it, before you bid? Most of that info is easy to come up with, although Krause hasn't reprinted their Standard Catalog of Oldsmobile in a while and it's getting pricey to buy.
