    I am not finding anything on the web to help me figure this out. I also do NOT have a vin tag as someone removed it long ago. I wonder if any of you can help me decode this.

    *These Combinations for Convertibles. NOTE; Comb. 4803 replaced 4802 February, 1948
    Combination numbers on Pontiacs are stamped on a plate which is mounted on the right side of the dash, under the hood.

    I just looked at my Fisher body book and 48-2607DH identifies as a Streamliner (Fisher body style) with full width rear seat. The body number plate should be attached to left side of cowl as you look at car (Passenger side). There should also be another tag that identifies a serial number.
    • 48 prefix identifies year of manufacture (1948);
    • 26 identifies Pontiac Division of GM (Model 26 - 6 cylinder);
    • 07 identifies style (Dynamic sport coupe), an intermediate 'B' body (122" wheelbase); and
    • D suffix identifies it as a deluxe model.
    00 paint code might be black, if so wheel colour was carteret red. Body had an argent silver stripe.
    The H suffix might indicate Hydramatic transmission? Eg. My 46 Olds engine # had a 'H' suffix indicating Hydramatic but nothing whatsoever on ID tags and frame number is different and it is a numbers matching 1945 YOM production.

    Check the top of the driver's side front frame near bumper iron for a serial number, it might be a feint stamping?

    VIN should read K6PB****
    • K is manufacturing plant;
    • 6 is engine cylinders;
    • P is 1948;
    • B is Streamliner; and
    • **** is the sequential production number. (1001 to 5556) with 1001 being the commencing number at each plant. This should match engine number according to Pontiac above referencing. Your body is 5249 so it could be a late production as I'm not sure if production and sequential numbers corresponded.
    Most bodies were manufactured at a Fisher Body plant close to or adjacent to the Pontiac assembly plant. http://www.earlytimeschapter.org/1948.html

    Two Tone Colors Available
    Mariner Blue
    Parma Wine
    Parma Wine No. 2
    Belgian Gray
    Frances Ivory
    Rio Red
    Genesee Green
    Blue Lake Blue

    Only 23,858 Pontiac Streamliners were produced with Hydramatic transmission in 1948 out of 245,419 units.

    00 paint code is Black. Trim would be either wool broadcloth, bedford cloth or mohair.

    This tag should be on firewall above OEM voltage regulator on LH (Driver's side) of engine bay. Eg. It reads W8PB2217. Same as my Olds and secured via 2 x small metal screws. Yours should read K6PB****.
