I have a 327 that I am trying to figure out what it came out of. On the rear driver side it has "3782870" just above it is "GM" and there is a 3 by itself. On the rear p***enger side the block has "L172". I have figured out that the block is a 62-65. Just curious if these numbers will tell me what kind of car it is out of? Are there more numbers that I am missing? Posted from the TJJ App for iPhone & iPad
Stand in front off the engine look to the left of the water pump in front off the head, post the numbers. If it's been decked the numbers will be gone.
As long as we have our secret decoder ring out!!! My block has casting # 3932386 Serial # (near as i can tell) 196013939 then in different size V1105FC Who knows what's inside, but what was it originally just for grins?
.... considering the suffix code has been milled off then I doubt if you have a numbers matching engine, at least they put the distributor hole in the right spot..
For post 8: 1969 327 2 bbl. I sure am glad I have one of the "good" internets that has this stuff on it. http://www.nastyz28.com/chevy-engine-code-stampings.php
The block code will give you the year number (I just typed it in my search engine) and the FC suffix is on the Nasty Z-28 site that I posted a link too.
Didn't mean to pick on you. The question comes up a lot (twice in this thread ), just thought I'd throw the site out there, it comes in handy.
You weren't pickin'....I learn't real fast to search on here before I ask anything!!! But figured I'd ask as it came up again. I had come up somewhere a while back that the casting # said 67-69 Camaro/Corvette performance 327 but the site you listed says b/f code body,Camaro/Biscayne,Bel-Aire etc. I just know it runs well, and who knows what has been done internally since then....and who really cares until/if I have to tear down, then I'll know what's really in there.
That number pad on the p*** side, front of the deck, may be recoverable by acid etching where the numbers used to be. When the numbers were stamped, the impressions can go beyond where they were visible. Can't hurt to try it. 4TTRUK
