I got a 46 Ford truck that doesn't have the door checks on it on either side. (The bar that keeps door from swinging into fenders).

I bought 2 kits. It comes with the bar, a washer with a slot, a rubber piece about 1/2" thick that matches and one cotter pin. Since the pieces are missing currently I don't know how this goes together. Maybe I am still missing a piece for the door post.

Do you have the double tab on the door jam? Thats all you need to complete the door check

Negative. That isn't in my door posts which explains the confusion.

  5. Bar goes through door slot, then rubber bumper, washer and pin. other end of bar attaches to the tabs which you need apparently. If you can't find them at Mac's or Bob Drakes, they're just two L brackets.
    Good luck.
