Looking for a car that my grandfather, Elbert Dooley (and his partner) built in the early 1950's. It appeared in a Cleveland Car show in 1952 and an issue of Popular Mechanics. Typesetting from Popular Mechanics Cleveland, OH: One of the most rakish appearing sports cars on the Cleveland streets these Days is this hand-made "CADO" built in a garage here [in Cleveland] by two young mechanics who believe their creation is the beginning of a custom-made sports car business. The builders, Johnny Campbell, 39 (above), and Elbert Dooley, 29, say their little speedster is the lowest and widest ever built. It is only 36.5 inches high and 6 feet wid. They derived the name "CADO" from a combination of the first two letters of their own names. Powered by a 160-horsepower Oldsmobile engin, the car has a top speed estimated at 130 and 141 mph according to the builders. It has a gold paint job, a feature is an airplane-type steering wheel.
