I have searched High and low with the HAMB search function and also Google to No avail.

He posted a procedure for extending the sector shaft on a Mopar aluminum steering gear. He really cleaned up the box and mounting ears., cut and extended the output shaft, and made a (Br***?) nut on the input side.
Quite an involved project. Thinking he might have been a machinist.

IIRC it went in a Model A or 32.
Since I have already searched every combination of descriptive words I can think of, (***les and all content) I believe it must have been part of a build thread and not stand alone.

If anyone else recalls this, I would appreciate a link, or at least tell me that I'm not crazy! Also, if YOU find it in a search, please tell us what words you used. I've used up all mine!@#$%^&^$:D

    Thanx,

    Bruce

You are not crazy. I don't remember the stuff you're describing. But you are not crazy.

    Boy, the HAMB is slipping.

Guys show a picture of a bent up piece of s**** iron and within minutes someone proclaims that it the radiator bracket for a 1911 Whippet. Followed up with another post that states that it was only used on the roadsters, as the coupes used a cast br*** piece.

I can't even get anyone to admit that they even saw the thread!:D

Well at least RodStRace confirmed that I'm not crazy. I'll be getting a second opinion on that!

    Mark,
That is not it. The one I' looking for had a bunch of work done to the box itself. T******* it down and cleaning up all the mounting point's etc.
I've read through all the threads I could find referring to cowl steering hoping that maybe someone had linked to the one I'm searching for.
Just seems to have vanished. I don't think it was real old and I believe I read it within the last couple of years.

    Thanx for the effort,

    Bruce

    Thanx Rod,

I've read everyone of those threads and the links within them. I believe that the one I am looking for must've gone to that big hole in the web.

    OBTW
Is it Rod Saint Race or Rod Street Race?

    Bruce,
There was one other from 2005 that had a reference to a previous thread which went nowhere. It's the first time I've seen a dead thread link here. Sorry. Don't give up.

It was a riff on the character in Spinal Tap, David St. Hubbins and at the time I had a Rod project, Street car, and a Race car. So both, either, or. I've used it on a few different forums.
Since I'm non blonde, I've used the likeness of Derek Smalls rather than David. Now that I'm gray, I've updated this recently. I have posted two pictures of my own face on the HAMB in the entire time I've been here (since 2007), so that mug to the left is the best you are getting. :D

Nope! But I hadn't seen this one before. Like the coupling of 2 shafts.

1935 Ron posted the photos of what he did in one of those threads. he hasn't checked in for 4 years though. I'm thinking that that is pretty well what the missing photos showed in the original post in that thread. Mopar mid size aluminum box, Schedule 80 seamless tubing , Original pitman arm cut down and machined to slip in the end of the hollow shaft, custom pitman arm that is welded on the hollow shaft in the correct orientation and a custom plate to cover the end. you also need a bearing (probably a pillow block) to support that shaft on a stout support just inside the side of the cowl. That wasn't shown. If memory serves right there was a pretty stout roll bar under the cowl that supported all of it.
    Photo creds to 1935 Ron.

I have read the above except for the one by KOZ.
    He is still active here.

@Koz, Can you post up the pics of the steering gear from your Sport Coupe Thread'?

I know Mel did one when he was building his 1932 roadster. It was a great tech post.
I’m very interested in this post as I have a few of them Mopar aluminum boxes

Unfortunately I lost all my pics in a computer virus that wiped everything. I only have pics from the last year or so. I've done dozens of these and they work really great with just a little lathe work. Very important to keep everything nice and true. Also, I keep my bolt flange on the secondary shaft under the dash which allows me to use a more traditional pitman arm where it shows. Lately I've been more partial to '80's Ford manual pickup boxes as they do not require an extended shaft and mount up easier with more foot room. Also have a nice ratio for a cowl steer.

I'd love to know who has the Sporty now. It just disappeared.

    @continentaljohn,
I'm not sure who 'Mel' is. Can you elaborate?
If I recall correctly, the thread that I'm looking for was a build on a think a '32 Roadster. That sure could be THE ONE!

    Thanx,

Something funny happened after studying the steering box mods for awhile. I decided to read the whole thread from the beginning. Turns out that @hotrodfab32 is one of my customers. He bought the side plates for his Halibrand and I remember him calling about the ribs on the Ford Trumpets and the Richmond R&P. Never put the two together until now.
