Alright ive got a '64 Ford F100 and i have some engine problems. After she gets warmed up it spits oil from the rear of the engine to the firewall. Im not sure where its coming from and im ***uming its a gasket problem. The second problem is i dont know what size engine it is. Are there any numbers or characteristics i can look for that will tell me what engine it is? Another thing is the paperwork says it a '64 but it has the "Twin I-Beam" badge and the twin beam suspension with coils which i dont believe came until '65. Could my paperwork be wrong? Thanks for any input.
There should be a metal tag in the door jamb area with stamped numbers on it that tells you what year and HP, by looking in an old Motor manual the HP should correspond to a displacement listing.
A six cyl. or a V8? If it is a '64, the original V8 would be a 292 Y block. A '65 would have a 352 FE. There are a variety of ways to tell them apart, but the easiest way is to look at the rocker covers...a Y block has two studs/nuts in the center of the cover....a FE has 5 bolts around the outside lip of the cover. I believe a '64 would have the 223 six & a '65 would have the 240 (or possibly the 300). BTW...& you probably know this...but it's a F-100, not a F-1...two different animals, & some parts guys aren't going to understand that the F-1 designation was used until 1953, F-100 afterwards. The Twin I-Beam is '65 & later. Of course, something could have been swapped in at some point.... So far as the oil spitting...is it under pressure??
if its a 352 it will leak at the back of the intake, valve covers and the rear seal for sure. Also the oil pressure sending units
