Everyone, Thank you for the help and tips from the past. I have another engine that I need help on an ID. It is a four-cylinder engine, the head cover is only 11-inches so it's small engine. I believe it could be a Austin engine used in Reliants. I also think they were modified for racing in the 600-750 cc classes. Any thoughts, comments, etc. appreciared.
Maybe it's a Cooper (oops Coventry) Climax used by Cooper? I've never seen one but they started off as power plants for firef fighting water pumps and were quite compact. Don't remember Austin ever making an OHC which is what that looks like.
I know for sure it's not a Coventry Climax. Or Crosley. Other than that. No. Reliant comes to mind. But I don't know.
Nice find! Post that question and photo over on PreWarCar.com someone over there will know. Add to to the "Lets Talk Cyclecars" thread here on the HAMB as well. Bob
Not all the way through, there is crankshaft in there. I'd like to know why there is a break in the case of emergency window in the cam drive tower. Bob
I'm guessing it is some sort of industrial power plant never meant to be used in a vehicle. It has that look. The flywheel seems to have no provision for a clutch.
More pics of the gearbox might give a hint of its last purpose in life. Maybe industrial or forklift.
Very little in the way of accessories. Could be Magneto and gravity fed updraft but no water pump? Wonder if it was a stationary starter motor but seems a little overbuilt with an overhead cam. Got to be some kind of markings somewhere. Whats it look like under valve cover? Bolts metric or SAE?
