just got these last week.he thought they were cheater heads. they do not look like they ever had fins and show no indication of grind marks.they are stamped with a small 8 behind the water hose connections.(comp ratio ?) i`m leaning towards them having the fins ground off,but they seem to thick and have that vintage patina.how about it bruce?where there any old heads produced without fins?
They look just like vintage Edelbrock heads, but without fins or a name. I have never seen another set before.
In almost 40 years of studying flathead Fords, I've never seen another pair like that. I'd bet good money they are milled heads, but they did the wrong side.
They aren't the weiand cheater, I had a set and there would be a raised "weiand" in a small rectangle right below the waterneck on the back side, plus they weren't that tall. I would really like know what those heads are, they are very cool and like the others said, I have never seen a set that looks like them.
I've looks at pictures online of other heads and I can say conclusively, these are 50's Edelbrock script heads with the fins milled off. You can even see evidence of fins in the upper corners.
^^^ I agree. The 8, I'm pretty sure is 8:1. I have and old set of edelbrocks that has 7.5 in the same location.
Yes there were aluminum heads produced without fins. Looks like the same type heads we used to run on stock cars in the early 50's. When running in the sportsman cl*** you could do any modification you wanted to the inside of the engine. Single carb. and no 'finned' heads. In most cases the fins were removed from original finned heads. During the latter part of the flathead era some heads were manufactured without the fins for racing purposes.
