I just got a new rod and the steering box is shot. I was told it was 39 ford. But not sure i need to rebuild it and need the correct year. Thanks for the help
i agree with jetmek, it appears to be a `32-`34 box. it wouldn`t be my first choice in anything other than the original chassis. you might be better off using a `37-`48 box.
The bearing retainer that bolts on the top with the 4 bolts looks odd to me. I think that my 32 was short with just enough for the mast to clamp on. Another word of caution you may need more than looks to order parts. The big 32 truck boxes and columns look just like the smaller variety. I bought a 32 box and column sitting on a blue tarp at Hershey only to find out that it was from a big truck when I got it home. All I wanted was the shaft itself but it was a larger diameter. I'd be checking all the critical measurements before ordering any parts.
Looks like a 32 thru 34 the difference is the housing that bolts to the frame and the ratio 32 13/1, 33 34 15/1 . All internal parts are the same, bearings gaskets etc. Sector shafts don't seem to be available but everything else is. If the bearing races on the ends of your worm gear are good a rebuild with new bearings should be all you need. It would be nice if you have 15/1 ratio. I have torn apart 5 32 boxes and only found one. I have been machining for needle bearings in the sector housing and thrust instead of the brass washer inside and it does make a difference. Good luck
