Can some one please me ID this motor please I can't find these casting number's on the net? Here's the casting number's on the front of the block C53-10-535T8 and the rear casting number's on the back bell housing 1323329-2. Any HELP! would be greatley appreciated Thanks...
That should be an extended bellhousing. Type C53 Hemi into Google is the best bet. Disregard the -10 as it was probably a special purpose motor rather than a car motor.
It might be but the guy I picked it up from said it was pulled out of a 56' Chrysler? I don't know cause it has the oil tub filler in the front of the block not on the valley cover like my other Chrysler HEMI 54'STD 331.This had ajustable rocker's and yes it has the 2bbl. intake with carb but it came with a 4bbl. intake as well look's a lil diffrent than my 331 here are some picture's maybe some one here can eye ball it?
If that C53 number is stamped in the block ahead of the intake manifold, on the lip just in front of the valley pan, it's the engine serial number and C53 means it's a '53 engine, which makes it a long bell 331. Having the long bell alone makes it 54 or older. According to the book, these are the '53 number series - C53-1001 to C53-82918 for Windsor (six), C53-8-1001 through C53-8-86292 for the New Yorker. So let's throw out a wild guess that C53-10-535T8, the T = truck, 8 = V8? It appears C = Chrysler, 53 = year, and 8 IDs it as a V8 in the car number series. And that only assumes this number is what's stamped in the block.
It might have, but it wasn't original to that car. The extended bellhousing was a 51 - 53 motor. 54 started the non-extended 331 all the way to 55, and then the 354 was 56, and 392 was 57 - 58. Take a picture of the back of the motor, it should have a cast-in bellhousing that you can get machined off, or there are adaptors (wilcap) for it.
The 4bl intake is for a '54. That is the usual way of getting a 4 bl on the 51-3 engines. Officialy rated @ 180 hp, have read they were actually 200 hp, but Chr. didn't want to scare the elderly types that usually buy Chrysler branded cars!
Cool, cool well this is alot of help and good info to remember thank's to all you fellow HAMBer's for the much needed help now I know what way to go on this build.
Scootermcrad is doing a build on one of these. There is a lot of stuff posted. Put hemi tech index in search or link to it from one of scooters posts. Check his posts also!
