That is a bedstead light. It is probably made of Bakelite. The front housing screws off with the lens. It uses a 40watt appliance bulb. The clamp attaches to the headboard and you pull the chain to light it, then read your hotrod magazines. I have one on the iron bed in our guest bedroom/office. They put out a focused small beam light so you can have the door open without bothering anyone.
