    Hi
I am looking for an old trailer to pull behind my 1955 White 3000 COE and stumbled across this one. Made by the 'Utility' trailer company. I am guessing in the 1940's or 1950's.
I am hoping that someone on this site has some info about it or can point me in a direction. I have done a search but the word "utility" brings up too many unrelated trailers.
I did e-mail the Utility Trailer company but they have not responded.

It is 22 feet long, previously used as a moving van/trailer and has the following info on a metal plate:
    body serial number - U4168
    serial numbrt - ?46588
(the question mark is ther because the plate was painted over and I
couldn't tell for sure if there was something before the 4 or not)

    Thanks for any help
    Brian

PS - I will go introduce myself shortly.

The pictures make it look pretty straight and not rusty. That is pretty unusual for that age semi trailer!

It actually didn't look bad at all.
Still has the wood interior (from moving van days) and wood floor.
Underneath it has a tank for air brakes and I think another tank for vacuum brakes.
One shotgun blast hole in the front and a few of the gl*** reflector lenses are smashed.
The only real rust to speak of is a 2' X 1' section on the left front where a sign was attached. Rusted quite a bit behind a sign.
That and the fact that the lower rear door is missing seem to be the only big h***les.

I looked over the pictures of your projects. You have way too much neat stuff. You need to share with the rest of us. I'll take donations of anything in your garage...(grin)

FYI - at first I thought the four engine dragster was your COE ch***is...!!!

Yes it sure looks like a 1948-50 Utility to me.... BUT bear in mind it has been quite a few years since I have "played with" the Big Rigs.... It's like this, in the 1980's I was a "***mins Engine Company Trained" Engine & Power-Train guy... just prior to that I worked for a small company "Overstreet's Trenching" in Madera, California (RIP **** Overstreet), While there I had the need to repair a very old "Utility" trailer, a flat trailer, but in my search for parts I ended up at Acme Truck Parts and Equipment Inc.
in Stockton... It was there I found the hub & brake parts that I needed... They came from a trailer that looked just like yours. While I was there they were dismantling the trailer and all the parts were being labeled "1950 Utility".. Hope you enjoyed my "rambling";) Maybe ACME (LOL!) still messes with old **** (like we do!) Utility will be hard pressed to do squat for you...

Oh yea and the Rusty Steel is normal, all the really old Dry-Vans I ever came across, especially the "moving types" were all steel.. the Alloy trailers did not take off until the late 50's/early 60's, in my experience...
