Technical Help identify a tach

Awhile back I bought this tach cause I thought it looked cool and wanted to use it on a future project some day. Every once in a while I pull it out to try and figure out what it was from. Still haven't figured it out.
From the looks of the inside it is set to 8 cylinder I assume
It lights up and the needle moves too

 

Just a thought. I think it is just a normal aftermarket off the shelf tachometer. Maybe from the mid 70’s to 90’s considering it’s made in the USA. Being plastic it was probably a low to mid price range .

 

The number 62801780 is also written under the needle. The case and bezel are a pot metal ish material

41rodderz is probably right though, about it just being an unnamed aftermarket shelf piece. I've definitely begun to suspect that after not finding anything searching online

I believe this is an RAC model 1408 although yours has a raised spot by the 0 mark on the bezel which my example does not, fairly confident it was made by RAC though, here's an example with the original box, pictures I stole from eBay. Not a bad looking unit, would look right at home in a period build.

The "raised spot" looks to me like a moveable pointer, I expect you could move it back to the bottom where it belongs, and put an RAC sticker on it.

 

Now that I look again I think Squirrel is right about that raised bump by the 0, should be at the bottom, was a spot to put the RAC sticker on there. That makes me very confident that it is indeed an RAC model 1408, the sticker just got peeled off over time and the bezel got rotated like 110 degrees.

RAC stands for "Rite Autotronics Corp." if you were wondering. A cheaper alternative to a Sun or SW, but still period correct and well worth using in the right car. If it works, $7.50 was a sweet deal for it.

Packaging looks 70s to me. Though I'm sure it'd look fine in a 60s car. Just a shelf piece for now
