I bought an old T-Bucket that was started in 1965 and finished (driven) between 67-70. It went through a few tire wheel combos.... The last being 19" wires on the front and 16" Ansens on the back. The Original builder/ owner put the car away in the early 70's (divorce, life) and the car was mostly untouched until '74 when it was taken apart and stored until 2012. The history is just a little background to establish that nothing on the car is newer than say 1972 or so and the wires were USED in '67-'68 or so when he put them on. I have pics of the car in 68-69 with the wires. The previous owner/builder bought them used from a Drag Racing buddy and said they came off a Dragster (said they were Jerry Ruth's). Keeping that in mind. People have said HALLCRAFT. I don't know much about Hallcraft, but always think 70's T-bucket when I see/ hear the name. My wires are 19". Tires are 19x 3.25. Just curious. I am NOT trying to prove the Ruth connection...nor am I trying to establish value (if they are worth $5k a piece they will likely go away LOL)... they have been part of the car since the early days and plan to stay with it by all means. JUST CURIOUS (you know: new toy, obsessed about knowing every little thing). Might come in handy one day for service parts too...... Here they are. *
Spotted your avatar on another thread, and was checking the car out in your albums, was wondering what the story was on it. I have a sixties T-bucket fetish, very cool car. Hopefully i will see it in person some time.
I have the story in my "Wooden Box" find thread. LOTS of pictures there including what he gave me from the 60's. Kind of a long story... but the short of it is that the original builder wanted a roadster around '62/'63...in the PacNW I guess that meant he resorted to a glass T. Read an article in Car Craft around '64 and built it with some Drag Race and Hot Rod buddies... cannibalized his Hot Rod Model A coupe and had fun with the car until around '71-'72.... put it away all those years until I got it in 2013 (took me several months to get him to make a decision). Build quality is AMAZING for a homebuilt 60's car. Might have it at Goodguys Puyallup, Spokane or other rod runs this year if I get a few other projects finished! *
It would be hard to prove one way or another that they were ever used on any special car, unless the hub was a one off part. Are the spindles modified (ground down) or stock bolt on Fords? If they are stock, there couldnt have been too many manufactuers of that hub, if they have been machined, they could be anything.
Wow! thanks! I bet you are right about the Harley Sidecar hubs. The zerk fitting looks the same... I guess I'll see if I can match them to Harley hubs.
These look similar....... with a hubcap on. SIDECAR HUB SHELL AND CAP Part # 6189-28, AND # 6191-28. later 1928 & 1929 LT & QT sidecars. 40 spoke hub.
The wheels on my Lyndwood rail were Harley side car wheels, the hub cap threads were inside, or female. Bob
These are Hallcraft 16" Buchanan's Spoke and Rim in Azusa Ca. could tell you what you have. T-Bucket Nationals Carson City, NV. June 20-22 www.nationaltbucketalliance.com
check out this thread for more Harley wheel info. Bob http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=370678&highlight=lyndwood+wire+wheel
Thanks I appreciate it. I will check with Buchanan's. The hub I posted a pic of looks very close to mine (if you unscrewed the hubcap). They also have 40 spokes and 19" x 3.25" tires. The "Story" goes: that the original builder of my "T" (The guy I bought it from), put the word out for some "Spokes" for the front of his "T". A buddy said another guy had a pair off of Jerry Ruth's Dragster... The previous owner went to look, bought 'em and they are still on the car with the same tires. Pretty sure they were already for Ford spindles. It's a cool story and nearly impossible to prove, but if they are Harley...who know's...they likely came off of SOMEONE's Front engine dragster! I like these wires a lot though. They give it a Dragster look....19" is HUGE in person for skinny spoke wheels!
