Technical Help identifying a NOS FoMoCo part

I was digging around in my parts stash today and came across this. It's cast iron and has a FoMoCo tag on it that says 49 Mercury. No part number. I imagine it is a part for an engine. I have searched the 1949 Mercury manual and can't come up with anything. Your help would be appreciated

 

Not for the engine. I’m guessing somewhere on the transmission.

 

It’s definitely not a manual transmission part.
