I can't help with info on the correct applications but I can give some insight into their operation. The YCM was intended to be used with the Magspark Transformer but it can also be set up to run with a conventional coil. With the MS transformer the points are independently connected to the Magspark, but for regular coil use you need to have a jumper wire connecting the two point sets. Mallory recommended it only be converted and used with their Voltmaster coil but you might ask GMC Bubba what coil would work. The Y means it is centrifugal advance only, C tells us it uses #24875-B points and a #24878 breaker plate and the M suggests it is for use with the Magspark, unless someone modified it as mentioned above. Your other one is Z, for both mechanical and vacuum advance and the C as above.

  3. good info Fordors....

  4. Well when I bought all his it came with a coil and resistor that was all packaged together so could it be a magspark or would it clearly be indicated and mark on the coil if so ?

The 12V Mallory Voltmaster had a 2" diameter resistor mounted on it but I believe the 6V coil had none. The Magspark is much larger and is kinda boxy, with two resistors on it as compared to the round Voltmaster coil. Also the VM is identified by the high tension lead having a rectangular retainer that is held down by two screws.

    The 180 is for early 6's (216-261), the 476 is for later 6's (194-292).

  8. So the shaft I'm assuming is really the main difference besides the points that they used? So I guess when looking for a distributor for 216/235/261 it'll be a longer shaft also on the 180 looks like some sort of condenser or vacuum what's that all about?
