I know this is a old chevy solid axle and the spindles work with my 53 chevy wheel bearings but the backing plate holes don't line up but I can make an adapter. I want to figure out what year the axle is so I can buy a new kingpin kit for it. The pictures are of the axle, the numbers on the axle, the spindles that came with the axle, the backing plate and the springs that were on it. Any help is appreciated.

I thought it might be a little earlier because of what I have heard about 53-54 spindles fitting onto these axles directly, but mine are a little different I can easily adapt them though. Does anybody know where I could run those numbers for an axle? Thanks

  4. They look like the backing plates and spindles off a 1936 chev truck I just spent time rebuilding.

In the number on the axle it says GM 38 that kind of made me think that it might be earlier could you check your 36 axle's numbers for me. Thanks

Similar to a 34 Chevy axle in my back yard. I'll check the numbers.

Just went and looked but saw no numbers? Axle sure looks the same though. The little stops on top of the axle toward the outter ends look the same as does the drop on the end.

  7. I will check numbers on my axle, I found 3 king pin kits for early chev when I was rebuilding (car 39-54) (truck 34-39) (truck 41-54)

  11. the casting numbers from my 1/2 ton 1936 chev truck beam is 370823GM44 the numbers are real faint, the backing plates are the same as yours. I machined my spindles to fit a ford 4 in drop beam but this is a pic of backing plates.
