Morning, in Joliet Illinois, having a mechanical problem, can anyone advise me of local good mechanics? I'm in Joliet for a couple of days and really need****istance. Cheers Wayne
Tell us a bit of your problem. Maybe we can help direct you. I'm about 25 miles east, but know some folks near.
Having a problem starting the car, fresh 302 everything pretty tidy, car was running ok after the initial start yesterday, have fuel, spark from the coil, cap looks a little suspect on the contact with rotor, no spark I believe to the plugs, have an ignitor 3 elec dissy.
Midwest Hot Rods is in Plainfield (a few miles west of I-55, north of Rt 30) 815.254.7637 . Have sent you a pm.
heck I live not to far from there ( several miles) too bad I was away from the computer . hope they fixed it for ya .
I spoke to Wayne earlier today, and I believe he's getting it fixed. He hasn't called me back, so I'm thinking he's okay.
Hey guys, thanks heaps, the brotherhood is strong, ended up getting my ride to Mid West hotrods, we tracked it to a bad coil lead, intermittent of course, I'm on a 5500 mile road trip, still doing Bonneville, will be sightseeing land marks now rather than fast cars, will head up to the Hotrod Hill Climb in Colorado, across to Joplin for the HAMB drags then turn West, road trips are king! Cheers Wayne
I'm glad to hear you got it sorted out. Welcome to the States! It sounds like you've got quite a road trip planned. It*****s about Speed Week, but I'm sure you'll have no problem finding other things to do though. I'm on the Wisconsin, Illinois boarder between Chicago and Milwaukee, if you pass this way give me a shout. I hope you have a great trip, stay safe!
Wayne: So glad you were able to sort out the problem. The guys at Midwest are great. Have a safe trip. Bill
This is what I love about the HAMB. Great spirit of community, guys. Kudos to all who helped this fellow rodder out, even if it was just to bump his thread. Good job.
Don: We've all been there. Nothing worse than being out of town and needing to find some hot rod help.
Glad you got it sorted out...all I could think when I read the****le yesterday was a line from the blues brothers movie..HRP Elwood Blues: It’s 106 miles to Chicago, we’ve got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it’s dark and we’re wearing sunglasses.
only thing was he was half the distance , and 10 miles from collins street prison where the opening scene was shot .
I took the wrong off ramp, in Joliet, while on an RV trip in 99. It was like the scene from "National Lampoon's Vacation" when the Griswolds ended up in "The 'Hood". We got the hell out of there post haste
you were on the east side , some so called bad areas over there , thats the side with the collins st prison , thats the original part of town near the interstate it looks bad near US30 its better , the west of the river is basically the newer side and in 99 it wasn't so bad as it was in the late 70s and 80's , the lodge were avgas is at is way away from there and is a older motel as it was on Rt66C ( I-55) I lived in the area since 1989 , east side for 5 years and the way west for the last 20
I remember when we were doing Route 66 in 2009 our first stop after leaving Chicago was Plainfield. It was a Sunday and on our way into Plainfield we saw several hot rods. Came to Mid West Hot Rods and they were having their annual open day. What luck!!! Probably 70 cars in the lot and we were able to wander through the shops and see what was happening. I still have their T shirt and wear it regularly. Shame about Bonneville Wayne, second year in a row cancelled. Enjoy the road trip.
You know, road trips are king , I was sure that I would see like most heading to the salt a real go at the magic 500, it won't happen this year but it will! My thoughts were if I see some racing, talk with some racers, smell some race fuel, all good, if it gets cancelled, ah so what! Still have the hill climb, hamb drags, will see some great things, meet some fine people, drink beer and talk*****, its all good !
Glad your back up and running,Bummer about Bonneville, going to miss it too.If you're taking the I 70 route, going through Grand Junction,Colo.Give me a shout.
