I'm looking at buying an Olds 303 for my coupe. Is there any inherent problems with the 303 I should look for before purchace.
    Thanks

    good engine.
    the problem is what transmission.
    the hydro;durable,but expensive to rebuild.
    factory manual/vintage aftermarket;rare and expensive.
modern manual/auto adaptor;expensive, but you can get overdrive 700R4 or T-5 and improve your gas mileage.
i hope you have deep pockets.

the Oldsmobile Rocket 8,it should come with a warning sticker that says "not for the faint of heart".
you should change your sig line now.
the only reason hop up parts are expensive for these is morons like you that start hoarding everything in sight.
then 1st time you run into a problem you throw a SBC in your car.
a lot of people want to call themselves "Rocketeer" but lack the grim determination to do so.

Man , How times change. For my first A Hot Rod, I bought a 303 Olds with 6 2's and factory 3 spd. for $35.00. They say there's no inflation, but I'm starting to not believe it. Oh Yah, it was May 63

Bought a good running 51 Olds in 61 for $80. Used everything but the oink in my first roadster. Big thing I remember about them was noisy lifters as with a lot of miles the lifters didn't get enough oil. Still ran damm good though.

got the original 303 in my '50 98 and runs pretty damn good for 58 years old. Lifter once in awhile starts to click a little but other than that, very strong.

All of the 303,324,371, and 394 Olds engines are strong. If you decide to build an Olds engine you may want to go with the 59/60 371's or the 59-64 394's.

SBC's are everywhere, but Rockets are forever! Dual Range Hydro's too!
