I raised the top of the frame to clear the driveshaft from hitting on my 61. And no this is neither an easy or a fast fix but does get the job done.

Were you having the same problem as me? With the rear ended rotating?

  4. Drive shaft is probably bangin against the floor, a lot of guys crawl under there and see where it is hitting and relieve the tunnel (make a hole in it).

Air Lift makes helper bags that you can use to stiffin the ride and lift it a little bit to overcome the problem.

You just went to school, hot rodding 101 when you move things around sometimes they bang into stuff. ;)

It's hard to see where it's banging when 9/10 of the drive shaft is out of view!

I'm reading a lot of stuff about the ****** mount being bad? So the ****** and drive shaft turn up and allows the drive shaft to hit the floor

  7. Well you will have to get in there to see if the ****** mount is bad and you may as well look for where the drive shaft is hitting while you are at it. it is not likely that it is hitting anywhere near the carrier bearing so most of the places that it is going to hit is exposed.

My driveshaft was hitting the top side of the frame, I raised the very back of the " X " 1 inch and tapered it forward 12 inches to blend back into the frame . I was able to do it with the body on the frame. Cured the problem and mine was dropped way more than 2 inches.

That really should not cause the problem seeing it's a 2 piece drive shaft, my guess is the back half is hitting somewhere, and that pivots after the driveshaft support bearing.

swap coils for air bags, then adjust to each load situation.

What about using a driveshaft that is bent down in the centre for more clearance.
Meaning a 2 piece driveshaft with the centre hanger lowered to give clearance

Or a 2 piece driveshaft with the rear half made from a FWD axle with 2 female CV joints [if a smaller diameter is needed]

The drive shaft goes through the frame... You couldn't put a bend in it until right before the rear end

Depends on what's hitting and where. We can speculate all day, but you're eventually going to have to jack it up and look to see what's going on. Once you know what's hitting where, then it'll be a lot easier to figure out what to do about it.

Your only guessing here. PINPOINT the contact area. Who much is lowered in the rear. Spare tire & jack? Tools, coolers ect going along w/the people that weigh roughly what?

I don't know exactly how much it was lowered. It was lowered 3 years ago and I wasn't super involved in that part. My dad just said we are gonna cute coils and after he did, it looked cool. That's all I remember lol. I have a cooler in the back right now with a little water in it and and a few cans. I have a wooden box that carries all my cleaners and car fluids. It probably weighs 40 pounds, and a lawn chair. It doesn't do it terrible when it's just me, but if I get 4 people in there, I can take off at a stop light at about 2100 RPM and all of the sudden.. CER CLUNK CLUNK CLUNKITY CLUNK!! lol... It's not very fun.

safely jack up car and get under it and look for anything that looks like something denting/ rubbing/s****ing anything - check movement in u joints (are they type with grease fitting?)- center section of rearend wet like oil leaking out? - fluid leaking out tail shaft on trans? take pics and then post info on what you found - may just be a loose exhaust pipe

ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1443136941.342442.jpg if you can see, the rear end is leaking out of the plug, and in the front...

Right, the weight transfer is squatting the ack enough to hit something that is still not ID'd. Those people weigh about 500-600 lbs. The shocks look like very basic non gas charged. My '61 came w/Monroe coil over's like you'd use for adding a small trailer. They are stout and not necessary for my use. You need to beef that end w/something like this. It bolts on in the stock shock location. Then go from there w/more improvements. Are those 20 inch wheels?

A little wetness around the fill plug is no big deal. If the pinion seal on the front is also leaking, you'll want to take care of that eventually, but a little drip there isn't an immediate issue.

By your description, it sounds like the driveshaft or u joint is what's hitting. It should leave some evidence. Look for s****es.

no, not talking about true coil overs, overload shocks that have coils. yes, we have seen posted pics - need better pics from under car - if you do not know how to safely jack up your car to do so go to a local oil change place that uses racks that raise the car and ask if they will put your car on rack for you to look underneath and take some pics to share here.

Disregard the bags, but look at the cross member laying on the yoke...this is where I would look at yours to see if there are witness marks from them hitting....
