New steelies, 15x6 and 15x7, '46-'48 caps, wide whites. If he wants a little flash, the wheels can be a muted color like maroon or dark orange, maybe cream, and with or without a trim ring.

I like the look with the wide whites. What color is the interior? Maybe wheel color to match the interior as long as it is reasonable. Chrome reverse with whitewalls and spider caps would look good too

There is a thread on here about making cast aluminum parts from old s**** aluminum, maybe a Boyds bellhousing?

    The steelies are MUCH better.

i agree that those are some fugly wheels but if he likes'em i hope he sticks with the boyds , not all cars HAVE to look exactly the same ! besides one of these days people are gonna be dragging out "billet barn finds" and people will be begging them to not change a thing . if there's a bandwagon to be jumped on ......people will ! lol

That looks really, really, right, and I say that as a guy who usually doesn't like wide whites all that much.

It'd look good with blackwalls, too. The steelies, hub caps and trim rings combo is a winner on cars like this.

I hate to toss in a cliche, but if the wheels were red (or perhaps another color other than black ... a dark forest green maybe?) it might even look a little bit better to my eyes.

If your dad likes it then just be glad he's having fun. As far as the decals in the window, when i was young in the early 60's there were a lot of decals on young peoples hot rods. Most were more than a hot rod, most were their daily drivers.

    here's the scenario:
"Hi, I'm Chris Hansen, and we're from Dateline NBC. Why are you driving with lame*** wheels on that sweet ride? Would you care to explain, why you brought M&M's, Vodka, condoms, and stuffed animals to this car show?"

    or:

"Dad, Boyd is dead. move on."

Anything but the boyds would look good but it would't be different. You don't want it to look like eveyone elses. something old would be cool!

I appreciate the help from those with the photoshop. I think I got enough to convince him. I removed the original pics to prevent a never ending thread. Thanks for the help.

He is obviousily a hot rodder thats why he likes the boyds. Yes they are way dated from the 80's but they do look better then the **** some people here have come up with. Looks like grampa's old car with the white walls and steel wheels. Something i could p*** on my bicycle. If he's enjoying the car let'm be.

Yep, after re-reading your OP, I wonder what you expect to accomplish by trying to advise your dad on what he likes anyhow.

I'm not sure that he likes them at all. Don't think that I mentioned anywhere that he liked them. I think he could "take them or leave them". I see it as an opportunity to make the car function better. The fact that the are ugly is just a bonus. They came with the car, so have zero of his influence. They are just there. He's more concerned with change for the sake of change, he's doesn't want to spend a bunch more money to make changes that he can live with. As mentioned before, the offset is wrong and makes the stance funky. They rub the fenders when turning, the offset is so wrong. He's afraid the car is going to end up costing more if we replace them. He's been bent over the barrel too many times by ****ty hack shops, that now he's gun-shy about spending anymore on the car. I'm trying to convince him to take the leap and try to sell off the wheels to get other ones. I know better than to tell somebody what they do and don't like. Convincing them to try and take a chance to make an improvement is another thing.

I think you missed my point.

You presume that you know better than he. You presume that if you convince him, then he will be happy.

Buy him a new hat. If he's aftaid of spending more money, give him the money, otherwise quit nagging him about what you don't like about his car.

:DI would take the Boyd's to a traditional rod show and have people wack 'em with a sledge for $5 a swing and give the money to a good cause.

He could just make the rest of the car match the wheels, paint it purple add a gold velore interior with 16 cup holders , add some billet and some multi color graphics down the sides...

or just sell off the wheels on it, to a street rodder and get some wheels that look right

You could just buy the car from him at market price and then you could do whatever you want. Until then, let your dad have the car he wants.

How'd you like it if someone tried to convince you that your car, paint color, wheels were wrong? Or how you comb your hair?
There's a lot of perfectly happy "men" driving Miatas. (good grief, I really typed that!) If they are happy, isn't that the point of life and much of what were work for?

One simple question: Was and is your Dad a good man and aren't you grateful that this man was YOUR father?

If you answered "yes"...then let him be. Who are you to know better?
I know it's a small thing were talking about here....wheels. Not a world changing event by any means, still....let him be. It's a matter of respect for him, his choices, his money, his wheels.
What if he tried to pressure you into putting some 20" Boyds on whatever it is that you drive?

The last thing you want is to pressure him into making a change (at a sizable expense) and then, he hates it. And then it's YOUR fault.
    You don't want that.

Sounds like you know a thing or two about nagging. So, persuading your dad to take Boyd's Billet wheels off of his otherwise cool car is somehow wrong? Jesus, this place is full of douche bags.
