Guys, I need your help in locating this '32 for an old friend of mine. The car was sold in Austin, TX in the late 60's and the most solid lead I have says it ended up last in Nebraska with a fellow who has shown it at the Mid-West Dueces show before. The top was chopped by Barris in CA, Tijuana tuck and roll, white with purple diamond insets. Last sold in Austin, Texas around 1969. Car was called the Purple Turtle and raced with a Crysler 392 injected hemi by Larry Reep, later known as the Grim Reeper (dragsters and funny cars by that name). If you have any info at all, please let me know. We would like to discuss a price on getting it back!
can't help. but I also can't help saying that car is so perfect for the day. Wow, no wonder you want to find it. It is an awesome build with so many great features. Thanks for showing the pics! . .
Awesome Deuce 3W !...... I don't think I can help,... But for some reason I keep thinking I have seen this car in old pictures, or possibly a magazine in the past.... That interior looks really familiar.
I can't help. But that shot with it being towed by the '56 Chev and the Buick in the background is simply stunning. Geoff aka whodaky
That's a damn fine hot rod for a kid who was an A1C. Although I had '62 Vette when I joined up in '66...not a lot of difference at the time although the 3W might have worth a tad more.
It has a pool ball for a shifter handle and a pool ball for "something" under the dash. Fire extinguisher? Cowl vent handle? QC in&out? Chute?
Maybe, just read the first post again. Say's it was raced with injection as opposed to the 4 carbs pictured...........................
Purple Turtle meaning that it was some shade of purple or lavender at the time the photos were taken ? The color might jar some memories. It looks like the car was sold just about the time I got married in Texas and may have been raced a few months before it got sold but I can't remember seeing it at Little River or the one time I raced at Austin in 1969.
Yes, the Purple Turtle was, in fact, purple! And yes, that's a hand pump under the dash used to pump up pressure to the injectors, which Larry made himself out of a bug sprayer if I'm not mistaken. The car was last raced around 1966-67 at the latest. My dad bought the Hallibrand quick change that was under it when Larry switched to a 9" to handle the injected hemi.
