    Hello,

When my brother purchased his first car, it was a 1951 pale yellow Oldsmobile two door sedan. It was stock and the teenage hot rod/custom stuff started at a record breaking speed. It was like someone opened a door and we all got to escape into an unknown world. Well, at the time, it was unknown and we planned on getting our feet wet.
    upload_2022-6-26_4-13-16.png
Soon afterwards, new mufflers and side lake pipes showed up. Then flipper hubcaps were exchanged with his teenage friends. And finally, we installed screw-in Moon Discs for the final choice. Several attempts to get a lowered rake took place, too.

    Jnaki

So, as the next year 1956-57 rolled into place, those older teenagers had all sorts of cars for their high school activities, including drag racing nearby at Lion’s Dragstrip. As the late fall of 1957 rolled around, rumor spread that my brother was going to sell his Yellow 51 Oldsmobile sedan. What? That was going to be my first hand me down car in a few years.

But, it got painted a Lime Green color and now, it was going to be sold to a neighborhood friend.

So, at the time, our neighborhood paint store, Standard Brands had a “Lime Green” paint color and the local spray paint shop did a great job of making the changeover. It had to be a Lime Green for his teenage friend to buy it after the spray paint. They split the cost of the paint. So, that Oldsmobile was gone and a new black 58 Impala sat in our garage.

The color was Lime Green. In those days, it was popular as Key Lime Pie and the new owner is still around, but for the life of the story, he cannot remember when and where he sold the Lime Green Oldsmobile.

So after banging my head on the keyboard for days, we decided on a color for the 56 F100. I called my local jobber and they told me that PPG doesn't have conversion for the toners they used to use.

If anyone has any ideas on how to achieve this, please let me know. Not sure of other brands may have converted the toners or not.

The color in question is a PPG code-42725, the original OEM color code is 96. It is called Carrara Green. See Caddy below for reference.

  5. Your best bet is to go in to your jobber show them a picture of the colour and have them give you the colour decks in those tonal ranges and pick something you like. Toners are constantly changing and if the colour wasn't popular enough for PPG to convert there is little chance anyone else has done it either.

A really good jobber may even do some spray outs for you.

I was trying to get some spray out material. They can get the color in single stage, which may be an option, but I was kinda hoping for bc/cc since I am adding scallops. We will see. I can get 1963 Laurel Green, but it is a little more yellow.

  7. If it's a metallic you don't want it in single stage unless you think you can spray it perfectly. You might try doing a spray out in single stage, getting is scanned and see if anything current comes close.

It does show to have some aluminum in it, but its not much. Not like todays metallics.

  9. Have you had a chance to look at any of the colour decks at your jobber?. No being able to reproduce the colour doesn't mean it can't be done with current toners it just means they don't have a formula to do it. They may have a very similar colour available just a different formulation.

Not yet. I just spent about 30 Minutes with him on the phone. I’ll make my way down there when I get some free time.

The Willow Green (HH) code is close. It's easily mixed. I may just have to say close enough.

Root, just for you bro I'll break my stand on this one.

I can't load your 1st example so I'll work from your HH code. We talked about this on another, but the base or seal coat will really bring it into what you want. Golder? Spray it over 1 coat of metallic gold. More silvery? Same, greener, over a green shade. 1 qt of any cheapo color thats compatible will do. Like it as is but too light then shoot it over black. Vice versa for lighter but maybe over a pea green instead of white. For "dirty" like old paint, red oxide. Simply write it down if you ever need a repair. Best I got for ya, good luck, feel free to reach out if you ever wanna bounce ideas. Cheers...

I did a spray out today over a white speed shape and a black one. The white is the winner. I’ll post pics when it is dry enough to handle.

Not quite the color you posted, but a similar pale metallic green that is very nice in the flesh. It's a Nissan Altima color called Mystic Emerald, from sometime in the early 2000s. Sorry, don't remember the code:

    @50Fraud .

I love that car. I did a spray out and the black speed shape made me think of your car.

Thank you. I was quite proud of how it turned out. I sold it to a guy in Australia, who refurbished it with new paint and interior. He didn't change the color scheme, and it actually looks better now than when I sold it.

I remember my dad and a friend of his both purchased new 78 Oldsmobile's. My Dad chose white, meh, and his buddy went with light green metallic. Hands down the winner. Of course, dad's was a 4 door 88 and the green one was a 2 door coupe with a huge sunroof. That didn't hurt either.

The #44 is pretty close to what I have. It's called Willow Green. It's not far off from the original color I was after in post#1. I'll post some pics tonight. Hoping it dried. I didn't use any hardener. The original intent was for the 56 F100, but mam is starting to act like she wants it on her car.

    The target is ever moving....

I had a ‘59 Olds with Willow Mist Poly on it and it was almost identical to the original color posted. It is a little darker than the Caddy above.

I had an 1984 Delta 88 that had a similar color called Gray Fern. It may have been a dark Gray Fern. As the name suggests depending on how you looked at it, the color would change its tone. It looks a lot like your sample on the clear mold.

Either Mountain Green from a '67 Camaro or Mosport from a '66 corvette. But both Mercedes and VW had a color like this in the '90's or '00's.

I had this custom mixed to paint these 5 spokes - was shooting for a DOW 7-inspired look that is a greenish gold...
