I have a 54 belair that has been sitting for awhile, since the 80s. The engine does not turn over. I was thinking that there is probably a bunch of crap on top of the pistons that have kind of sealed them to the cylinder wall preventing them from moving. Is this true and any ideas on how I can get the engine running?
The old guys say to remove the plugs and put in a 50/50 mixture of Marvel Mystery oil and kerosene. Let it sit for a few days and try to turn it with the crank nut, or a bar on the flywheel teeth. Remove the rocker cover and press down each rocker with a hammer handle to check for stuck valves. When you get it to turn, then check the carb, fuel tank and pump, and ignition.
try this thread. Full of good info, and be patient or you'll bust stuff that didnt need to break. Have fun. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=208690&highlight=frozen+engine
