I just bought a '64 Chevy truck with what the guy said was a 250/6. I haven't been able to find any real info on the six motors that answers my questions. I was hoping someone here may have access to the info, or know where to find it. I'd like to know the year, and application of the engine. 473483 is cast into the side of the block along with D 732, and it looks like F0443TLA is stamped on the pad behind the ditributor. Any help is appreciated. Thanks, Barn-core.
Casting number through google shows as 66-85 250 per one of the links on the first page I got. F0443TLA could include the date code, F seems to mean built Flint MI, 0443 doesn't make sense as a date though. I typed "Chevy 250 inline six" into google and got almost 700,000 hits back. Digging through is pulling up some info - engine letter codes would probably be in a Motor's manual, too.
this list says it`s a `79 - `85 250 with an intregal head . http://www.enginepartswarehouse.com/enginecatalog/GENERALMOTORS.PDF
LowFat48, thanks for that link, that's what I was looking for. I believe we have identified the block, but the head definetely does not have an integral intake. Could someone tell me where to find the head casting numbers so I can find out what the head is off of.
The integral intake heads seem to have been used interchangeably with the non-integrated heads. I've seen Camaros and pickups in the 70s with either. My daughters' 74 Camaro had an integral head but a friend's had a non-integral head and both were one-owner cars bought when they were about 10 years old.
