A lady approached our car club group at the fair tonight and asked for our help IDing a car she found sitting in a cleared field. I don't have any pictures so I will give a description of hers to the best of my memory. Also, she did not have a picture of the front or the interior. It strongly resembles a 37-38 Cadillac except where the Cadillac emblem is on the trunk this one has 3 chevrons And the bumper is like the Caddy except the emblem in it is different and the picture was not clear enough to ID it. It has a split rear window, dog dish hub caps, again with an emblem that was not clear enough to ID. It is a 4 door with rear suicide doors. The gas cap is on top of the p***enger side rear fender and the tail lights are similar to the Cadillac. There is a large rectangular vent(?) on the hood side along with parking lights on the front fenders. The headlights are the torpedo shaped ones sitting to the inside of the fender. I can't recall any other details at this time I think the 3 chevrons on the trunk lid will be the key factor in IDing the car. I have looked at Chevrolet, Pontiac, Buick and even Packards from 36-41 without any luck.
Would be a worthy addition to someone’s flock Did some of my first body work on one of those. Pecked on that thing for hours I hear they bring a good bit of scratch
Here's a 38 Fleetwood from Southby's so some of us that don't have every single 80 year old car memorized knows what he's talking about. Tony, looks like you got a lot of the details mentioned!
Rod, you're not doing too bad either! And if you turn that V8 emblem upside down it might look like a Chevron!
The chevrons are quite possibly a coachbuilder (original) or a custom touch by an owner, but I don't savvy old GM stuff as well as most here. With the triple strakes on each fender, I could see someone adding a triplet of something on the trunk.
somebody get this man a beer! 59 minutes from first post! 35 minutes for the first post with the answer!
I think you are right. I don't remember the two small lights being on the rear and I do remember a parking light on the right front fender. Other than that this is the car. 1937 Lasalle. One of the Chevrons is missing and there are at least two different hubcaps on the one I posted. I remember the plain caps with the emblem in the center. https://www.vintagecarcollector.com/vehicles/166/twitter.com
