Ive got a 1950 8ba and I just want a little info on it. On the bell housing it has "D1703" and on the top of the bell housing it has a "M". Now under the intake gasket on the rear passenget side it just has the numbers "76" in a square and between the drivers side rear cylinders theres a "u" and "<P"....im lost....ive searched a couple of sites and cant find anything. Thanks guys (gals)!

You remove a head, measure the bore, check the crank stroke and then you'll know what you have. All that casting number jazz doesn't tell you what you have.

All those numbers are meaningless. You know it's a '49 and later because it has no integral bell housing. Beyond that, the only meaningful thing is the stroke. Other than the stroke and the cam grind, all '49-'53 short blocks are identical.
