    im in need of a wheel/tire 101 ..
heres a pic of my 36 pick up, ive got a 4 inch drop axle with reverse eye spring up front, and just kinda got it jacked up the way i like in the rear.
well now im trying to fit wheels and tires up under it.
in these pics, if got a 15 inch wheel on the front, it fits great, good clearance.
in the back ive just got a 20 setting there, not bolted on.
my problem so far is, i want to run the tall rear wheels but want to keep the tire inside the fender, ive got 9 inches clearance.
i cant find a 20 inch wheel that will run a 9 inch tire.
maybe im looking at this all wrong,
    could i please get a wheel tire 101 ??
    thanks

20" aluminum wheels on the HAMB?:eek::rolleyes:

  3. wheels/tires are hard to recommend over the internet without knowing a few more things about your pickup. first , it appears to me that the rear is sitting a little high..what do you have for suspension? maybe you could lower it some and use a normal wheel. second...how wide is your rear end?

a friend of mine is building a `36 ford pickup.....it has 8-1/2" wide X 15 American torque thrusts with 255/75R15 tires and i believe a 57" wide rear end. with 3" lowering blocks on CE springs the tires fill the rear fenders nicely and it sits great

if you want 20's on the back, dont use 15's up front, use 18's. vice versa, you want 15's up front use them in the rear as well

Go to the tire rack web site and use the calculator to figure the correct size,

also you can see a picture of you vehicle and what it would look like..

Didn't think I'd live long enough to see anyone on the HAMB (you know, that web site that expresses exclusive interest in TRADITIONAL rods and customs) would ever have the nerve to post anything that they owned wearing such a distasteful wheel/tire combination. There are plenty of other places to go for that.
Like sugested maybe 16's with big and littles, but NEVER what you posted.

Gotta go with the mob on this one, but here's a little advise to help:
Measure the fender opening (Red line) and the total length of the inside of the fender (Green line). For a rod, the tire looks best if it's somewhere between these 2. Smaller looks more low rider, bigger than the Green line causes the truck to be jacked up and the tires look like they don't fit, which they don't. Think show style 4X4s.
Now as far as stance, this forum is about traditional, unless you can ignore the legal scrub lines and drop it in da dirt! A scrub line is when you draw a line from the rims (tires completely flat). If anything is hanging below this (ch***is, 4 bars, oil pan), it's below the scrub line and illegal. You aren't in danger of that yet.
Stance IMHO for a rod is best if the center of the axle or spindle is at least even with or above the fender line (Blue lines). You are good up front, but the back????

  23. Hey, that's a nice truck. I really can't offer any constructive advice about what you're trying to do with it but, I seriously hope you will reconsider the BIG wheels. you can get what ever rubber rake you're looking for with any normal size wheel and have a truck that doesn't look like a HotWheels when you're done. I like the look of '40 Ford steelies with a big rubber rake and mercury caps myself. But, bottom line is it's your car, build it the way you like. I hope you find what you're after.

Nice Truck. I'd go with big & little 16s.... 6.00 front and 7.50 rear. Or equivalent diameter tires in 15" rims. Drop the rear per RodStRace suggestions.

    I would say a 15" 550 on the front

And out in the rear i would say a 16" with 700 0r 750 there is about a 1" difference in the those 2 sizes in height, that will get you plenty of height and width you need without running a 20" rim.

Or you could go with a 15" rim and a L78 tire and still get some height and a width,

call me tomorrow if you got time

Look here. These are 18 inch wheels with Firestone 800-18s that you can buy new from Coker. I know the car isn't HAMB material but I wanted to show 15s in front with a 33 inch tall tire in back. And it is Packard powered. That should count for something.

maybe you should figure out where you are... Traditional Hot Rods and Customs is the name of the game. Not Pro Street, not Muscle Cars, not Resto s, and not Street Rods...
