I am getting ready to paint my 62 Galaxie. I know I want to paint it blue, but I can't decide on which one. I know I want a darker shade, but not purple. I don't want anything complicated since it will just be a base/clear paint job. No pearl and no flake. The car is going to have body color steelies with spyders and trim rings. It is lowered 2" and a lot of the trim has been removed. It will look a lot like a blue version of Malcolm's old 62. Pics of blues would be greatly appreciated.
Heres a sweet blue i saw on a thread last week on a merc jessie james did. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=470810&highlight=west+coast+choppers
I really like that. I am looking for something similar to that in a factory color. That way I can find a paint code and have some mixed. That car is awesome.
this is what martin-senour says is closest to the original "washington" blue that was on this '32 when it rolled off henry's line. the pic is after color sand before buff so it will be alot shinier than this. it is a straight blue with no flake what so ever. i'm going to darken it a bit to do my 26 roadster.
Have a look at late model Aussie Fords and dare I say it? - Late model Subaru WRXs and Mazdas (which over here, share the same shades as Ford's). I'm just doing a project with my grandson (an '84 Ford (UK) Sierra wagon) and he's deciding between a gunmetal grey or a blue with old school racing stripes, hence my suggestion.
>>>>>,Check out 1958 Edsel Metalic Blue ,,great color ,,had my '54 Ford Pee Cup painted that in '67,,
I would go to a paint store and see if you can look at the paint books and Im sure you will find something you like!!
Yes sir I have. I love your car. It keeps me motivated. That color is at the top of my list right now. I believe you said it is Apollo blue. I may need to look into a paint code for that.
I went through the paint books until all the blues started looking the same. he guy painting it for me keeps pushing Viper blue. I just don't like that color. I don't know why.
Viper blue is a dirty looking color to me. If you do decide to go with a metalic, nothing is prettier than House of Kolor Majic Blue. Its easy to shoot and looks like a million bucks.
House of Kolor does have some nice blues. They guy painting my car plans on using BASF since he gets a killer discount. I like discounts.
What ever you pick, your car is going to be a killer, like someone said don't go with the Viper Blue, it will not do anything for your car. You have to love the discounts though!
Check out ford mustang 99-04 blue there is a light blue and a darker one,you will have paint codes easily available. My 01 gt was the darker blue, loved it.very very light metal flake, could hardly notice, the mach 1 has a light blue that had no flake what so ever(if im correct on that) Def worth looking into these,I know I know it newer but its a nice looking blue
I was going to go with 04 Ford Sonic blue, but it is too purple. I like the Washington blue and the blue on that Merc. I am trying to avoid pearls and flakes. They just aren't my style. I looked at other cars in Washington blue and that one is in the lead right now.
If you like Washington Blue, also check out Lyons Blue. My buddy painted up 5 samples, and then we chose Lyons Blue. But we later swapped out the black for a darker black... So this is darker than regular Lyons Blue:
Porsche has some nice blues. That pic of Jessies car looks like it has blue candy in the clear. Just a guess.I like this blue.
Check out Sheridan Blue. It's a 1950 Ford blue and is a little darker than Washington blue. Very nice. I had my 36 painted this color.
