Help! Moon/refund/ the law.

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by big jungle jim, Dec 21, 2005.

  1. i ordered one of those push-button shifters about 3 years ago.( probably longer) was told there would be a three month lead time due to demands, but if i wanted one, i'd need to overnight a money order to get my order on the list. no problem. called when i was told to call, yup we have it, we'll get it out right away. two weeks later, no shifter. called back, we had a problem with customs and cannot get the parts to assemble them. we'll have it in two months..... called on and off and a year and 8 mos. later, i called and said i wanted my money back. well, we dont sell that item anymore, call retrotech. called the number, talked to ken, said it would be shipped in a week. 2 mos. later, no shifter. called the retro tech number.. disconnected. called moon and demanded a refund. finally got my money back. piss poor company. piss poor service. i put them up there with the people hocking von dutch stuff.

i will never again buy anything from them. lesson learned. i hope they go out of business.

What can i say. I am overwhelmed with the replies to this post. There are to many people to thank individually so THANKS to everyone. I am currently in talks with Chico to resolve this, which will be in a set timeframe. Otherwise i will take action as advised in this thread. I just hope this will be the first of many unresolved issues that people have with Moon to be sorted out.
I will keep you informed of what happen's. It just goes to show what power we have when we stick together. POWER TO THE HAMB.
    Cheers Jim Happy Christmas.

  3. I don't know you Chico, but after reading this thread I'm baffled that you haven't already given a refund. From where I sit, I see in your reply five (5) "weasle-outs". (I hope I'm wrong)

You don't need KEN, you don't need to prove anything, just do it!

Man, what a bunch'a dicks over there. Although not the best solution and I wouldn't recommend this to any one. My dad, he would have solved the problem and it would have involved gasoline, I'm sure. It was people like him that kept people like them honest, at least in my oppinion. I saw him go to jail over what was right more than once, and once involved a motov cocktail and a car. One of the, if not the most honest man I have EVER met.

Jim, I wish you the best of luck and please keep us informed....oh, and it's time to drop the nice guy appraoch and let them know you mean business, maybe not the extreme that my dad would have but let them know you are serious.

Where can I get a Moon style tank other than Moon? I was going to order one from them but I guess I won't now.

molotov cocktails get to much hype and are really messy, everyone always forgets to pid them in tar before you throw. a nice length of rusty pipe works much better...:)

Once we were heading home and saw a guy on a motorcycle leaving our house. My dad rushed inside and right back out, took off then came back. I wasn't there but he said he beat the bike with a moster rock breaker we had {giant prybar} and told the guy to split. We lived 6 miles down a dirt road. LOL, he had a nasty reputation, but also a strong one as being as straight and honest as could be.
He had all kinds of little quotes and sayings. one that pertains to this situation was:
two things I can't stand, and that's a lying woman and a lying man.

Is what the world needs now is a little more truth and honesty backed by integrity.

and that's my two cents for the day.

  8. Chico . . . I sure hope you stand up and take care of Jim -- cause we're all watching this go down. Your reply seems a bit "thin" . . . Ken's not around, you'll do it when you have a chance, blah, blah, blah. Why don't you specify a date to get this fixed by? . . . one that you'll stand by to get him sorted out -- OR refund his full amount and move on?

The good news is that Jim is going to let us all know what happens in this deal. If it drags out and he ends up taking legal action or hauling you to court . . . we'll know that too. Take care of your messes and build a reputation that you're proud of -- then you might get some of my money. After all - it only takes a few bad deals to completely ruin whatever reputation your 54 year old company used to have . . .

Jim, I had a similar problem a few years back here in England,The guy gave me the run around for too long.I was advised to take a claim in the Small Claims Court, but, was told it was not enforcable if he decided to bluff it out and not cough up.Short of travelling down to the south coast and laying hands on the guy, I hit a dead end. Then I saw an ad for the mail order protection scheme....basically I got in touch with the magazine that had run his ad and told them the story...they said they`d look into right away, and days later I got my refund..less 10%"handling Fee???" better than nothing.

don`t know if anything similar exists in the U.S..

if everyone would hold off on there purchace's for one month from moon, I think they would get the idea. no money might help them understand. who can holdout longer.

  11. Why don't the books or magazines[&:) ORGANIZATIONS], that Moon Equiptment advertise with- [to GET their customers] .....help out ,by having a little "talk" with Moon's owners.....? Does it not ,as well reflect on them the publishers?
Some ,if not all of their advertising resources are seeing this,Right?
Is this not a  "financially correct"- thing for them to do, in order to "help" bring MOON back into a competent way of running their business?

One month? How's about never. Big Jungle Jim, at this point I'd like to see you get a full refund and be able to wash your hands of the whole thing. It's not just the money either, but the constant headache of playing games with people/companies like this. I got the runaround from Moon also (didn't see THAT coming, did you?) over some wheel discs. Who else makes spun aluminum discs anyway? Spun Ray?

Instead of waiting to see how this is handled before some of you make your planned purchases, why don't you just buy it somewhere else. I don't think there is that much stuff Moon makes anymore, they are mostly just distributors. I give repeat business only to those that want my business. Obviously lots of guys have trouble with Moon, so I won't give them any of my money. If everyone did this the problem would get fixed or go out of business, either way we are better off.

I don't know this Chico dude,
    sounds like you don't either.
sounds to me like you are about to "strung along" again.
    I hope I am wrong.
you need to forward your case and all documentation in this
    matter to the authorities
    TOMORROW!
then the ball will be in HIS court!
If he takes care of the matter in a timely fashion,
    all the better.
If not,you have already started the ball rolling.

    Best of luck to ya'!
I think you are gonna' need it.

  15. Seems to me you need to buy from Moon like you would on eBay - use a credit card if possible. If the stuff doesn't come on time, file a chargeback. If the stuff comes but is damaged or doesn't work and they won't help, file a chargeback. Etc. Assuming they even take cards. If they don't, then I wouldn't mail order through them at all. See if any of the other mail order houses can get the same stuff, there's enough others out there - Jegs, PAW, JC Whitney, Summit, etc.

  16. I spoke briefly to Chico at a couple events to see if he would be interested in bringing a trailer of goods to the HOTROD-A-RAMA. His people skills SUCK! I came away thinking that he was an arrogant prick.(and guess what, I was right). Now I wouldn't let him vendor his stuff if he begged me. I have heard so many complaints about the way they do business I would never even dream about ordering a stinkin' t-shirt. I have a friend that bought one of those fuel injection units as well and had a lot of troulble with it. He's stubborn and was determined to get it working. I haven't heard lately how's it's working out but I'll know here in a couple of days when I see him.
Chico? Are you getting this ? Don't sell what you don't have and follow thru with what you say or get out of the biz! What? No comment? When you talk to somebody at a show remember one thing. You never know who you are talking too so treat everyone like they are your best customer or you will have no customers. Your not that important. Your attitude is. Ya dig? Oh, by the way, I tell everyone "Don't Buy Moon" and there's a whole lotta hotrod customers on here that are doing the same from the sound of it. Your address to the board here was admirable but extremely hollow. How do you account for all these complaints with people not getting their parts in a timely manner or at all? The HAMB is waiting breathlessly.

I bought some Moon stuff many "moons" ago. I guess things have changed and the following statements just taken from their web site no longer applies: QUOTE

"The Mooneyes Company The Moon name stands for quality and integrity in speed and racing equipment. Moon Equipment itself is pride. Pride because we make specialty equipment that is acclaimed and respected by the best of racers, street rodders, and engine builders. They share our pride; pride in what they do and in the equipment they use. Those who sell our equipment do so with a sense of responsibility and a guarantee of experience. They also share in our pride of Moon products..................."

theres more but why continue...anybody want to buy some cheap moon stickers?

5 Window's got the right idea!

ANYONE that's familar with this place! Email the state attorney's office if you've had any problems.

    Kathleen_Hamilton@dca.ca.gov

Be sure to tell them to get in touch with Big Jungle Jim in England. Explain the story and yours, they will repsond if they're anything like New Mexico. I'm sure the state AG's office has at least 200 attorneys available for this. It's your CA tax money at work. USE it!

    WOW what a total mess.
    Realy hope it works out.

I noticed that the premium seller MR. Chico got the name moon. I searched for similar names in the member listing here and found a user called Mooneyes. Look it up. No post and the profile says "I'm mooneyes". Link to homepage and all.

    Who is this???

  22. have to admit to wanting the moon injection and the electronic shifter they used to do (note used to do!!) I did take a good look at the shifter and a cheaper piece of shit would have been harder to comeby, looked like it wouldn't last longer than a year so I didn't bother. The injection......spoke to a UK vendor who wasn't exactly complematery about it but pointed out a current owner (note not user) the quote was "the most expensive fucking ornament I have on the wall....It's a piece of shit!"
Will check on jims progeress on the NSRA site in the UK but have a feeling Moon won't be selling much to the UK for a while..

Have given them a week to give an exact date in january. Have also stipulated that if they do fly over and still can't get it to work i still want a full refund. No more Mr nice guy.
