Definetly sound like a bearing clearance issue, as in too much. But i think that pressure is still in factory specs for pressure

I have been running various 289 and 302's since 1970....... the cam bearings are worn... you can change the main and rod bearings and it isn't going to help...... I know this from experience. you can drop the oil pan and put in a high volume oil pump not a high pressure pump and it will help the problem. I have an old 302 that has 6 to 7 lbs oil pressure at idle and about 30 lbs on the highway and it has been that way for about 20,000 miles..... so if it does not have a rod or main bearing knocking drive it........ until you want to rebuild it.
