I'm a deuce guy but love my 40 coupe. I put a fresh Mustang 8" rear under it with a CE parallel leaf rear suspension and 2 inch blocks. The front is a 4 inch magnum with a Posie low spring, P&J's shock kit, Bell power stoppers with 8 inch booster and 525 steering.. Drives and rides great.

Yes I did take the shocks off and drive around. It was very bouncy and kinda scary going over any decent sized bumps at speed.

re shorter shocks. I didn’t feel like spending any money…yet. Wanted to make sure I understood my issue. Now that I know what works, ill probably look for shorter shocks so I can remove the brackets I made.

I must be missing something here,in my 70 years of fooling around with these old Fords, I've never seen the short leaves put underneath like that. I guess that you're never to old to learn something new.

  6. I may not understand fully your setup, but you shouldn’t need to move the mounts, just get a shorter shock. Because now you have a shock that is fully compressed at ride height, you just need a shock that has the same measurement halfway through its travel.

  7. that’s so the spring stays the same width for the spring clamps to do their clamping. You can make a spacer after removing leaves from the pack, but putting the leaves on the bottom works too.
