Anyone going to be running from Allentown, Pa area to north Georgia area anytime soon? Found a great guy to get some doors for my F1 from, but shipping is ridiculous!Never tried bus freight before, would they need crated? or palletized?
    thanks

  2. What kind of condition do you expect them to be in when they arrive?

A crate would be advisable. HRP

For what it's worth...I bought some fenders and a hood for my '39 from a fellow HAMBer in California. He shipped them with Greyhound and they arrived just fine. He wrapped each piece individually with some cardboard and shrink wrap, but that was it. Greyhound is definitely a lot cheaper than any other service for this kind of stuff.

I'll second the Greyhound. I shipped a set of 30 Chev doors (thin tin) from central Washington to Florida for under $60. If I remember correctly I just used shrink wrap. They made a ton of stops along the way, but made it unscathed.

A couple of years ago my Son bought two 1950 Ford tudor doors from someplace like Arizona or Nevada. The guy put them in nice boxes and shipped them by bus. We picked them up at the terminal and they came in good shape and the shipping was much cheaper than FedEx or UPS, or truck. Bus seems good especially for large items like doors, fenders, etc.

Alot depends on how the shipper is set up and how much he is willing to do to box or crate them.

I just went to Greyhound Package Express this morning...shipped off 2 huge boxes. One box had 2 Model A doors in it going from Tulsa to Bloomington In...68lbs...cost $97.75.

The other box had a '32 front fender going to Ann Arbor Mi. 31lbs...cost $66.45. You can go to Greyhound Package Express website and put in the city it's coming from and going to...the longest length in inches and the approximate weight and they will give you a price.

Now when you actually take the item to the station, they will tack on a $2.00 insurance charge and a $3-$5.00 fuel surcharge...no biggee.

It's a HELL of alot cheaper than UPS...they wanted $175.00 just to ship the doors!

I've also heard good things about the grey dog, but consider USHIP.Com.
I had a Cad 390 engine & tranny (bolted together) shipped from Enid, OK to San Jose, CA for $380.00
